Fuel economy and fuel flow for there boats & engines

Hi all,

It would be interesting to know what fuel economy people are getting with their boats and engines, i'll start of with my boats figures. it's all in metric as they did stop teaching imperial back in the 60's. but if you want to use imperial or NM thats fine

2009 WXR 529 Stabicraft ( 535 kg)
2009 90 hp Honda four stroke ( 163 kg )
2 POB ( 125 kg) with canopy up
loaded with approx 50 kgs of crap
Fuel 120ltr (approx 120 kg)
in 5-15 knot winds in moreton bay

Total Weight: Approx 993 kg

Fuel type: BP Ultimate 98 Octane

4300RPM approx 2.9-3.0 km per litre
cruising at 40 km an hour


5800WOT 1.6 km per litre
59 km an hour


Average from my last 18 hours works out to be approx 2.4km per litre

I haven't gotten around to recording the flow per hour yet. but will get around to it.

I Did a search, but you find all of them are just treads about there motor. etc 150 etec, 60hp honda and there figures,

what i'm trying to acheive with this thread is a small database that includes different motors to different boats with weight load and wind conditions to help people with real figures when they are looking at a new boat or if they are just interested in figures.

Useage is 1.7km to a L between 25 and 32 knots, can cruise at 20 knots with 1.9km to a L.
Above 32knots it just gets to drinking.

Not a bad idea asking people to post up there economy and boat motor combo all in the one thread... It would be good if everyone could post up the figures as accurately as possible...

For me personally I am hoping to up grade my rig late next year, and to see what other people are getting from similar boats I am looking at, it will aid in my decision making....

These eco figures were taken last weekend with my new NMEA interface and are GPS calibrated.... I am very interested to see how they compare to 4st of a similar size. As I am considering a Suzuki or Honda for my next rig..

CraigCraig, your economy figures seem very low to me, and if your prop is not damaged I would suggest you try some others, as you can do a lot better than that. I have the same boat with a F250 yam. Wet weight would be around ~2000kg+ with a full tank, 100L water, 2 people & normal gear, and my boat would be a bit heavier than the std model.

Here are my fuel & speed figures (Yam gauges) for 3 different props (averaged 2 ways), and the Yam Gauge speed was within a few % of GPS average speed. A ‘calmish’ bay trip would return 1.4-1.5km/L ave, and my worst offshore trip so far has been 1.1km/L ave (with a lot of weight on board), but normally 1.2 – 1.3 km/L ave.

It might be worth a look at another prop, Looking at the diferance in the Graphs a differant prop can make a large amount of differance in the fuel used.

Nothing scientific, but my boat carries a few hundred kilos of weight (id guess around 300kg total)

I work on an estimate of about 3km/L on average, which is cruising at 3/4 throttle and motoring back and forward between locations or resetting for drifts etc, and this has seemed accurate over the last 12 months.

6M EDENCRAFT OFFSHORE,(actually measure 6.7 on the tapeand 2.6T on the trailer with daily fishing gear) 225 HONDA runing a 16 solas 3 blade

fully loaded with 330L fuel 200kg ice 3 blokes fishing and sleeping gear I did 320klm for 290L fuel in mostly 15+ knot conditions
