OK, so we have exhausted all avenues in an attempt to decide on which boat is best and have finally decided to go Fibreglass. We are looking for a minimum of 4.9m. Sadly, we cannot afford brand NAME new one - our original budget early $30's. How much do we need to spend to get something clean and reliable. Which boat should we look at. Basically a fishing boat for Port Phillip Bay so there are no intentions of going out in big seas and we need something stable at rest as we both get sea sick. I am really worried about soft floors and transoms and crappy motors and really dont know enough not to get burnt. Cheers Mick

that budget will get you any one of a hundred (or more) boats, if you are worried about inspecting a prospective boat, just pay a pro to do it for you, they do not charge all that much, PM Ausfish member BM, he is down south and will be able to help you out, (I think)he is a reliable and honest guy to deal with, so I am told.

Should be plenty of boats in your area that would fit your criteria....have a look at the whittleys...they are a perfect hull for PPB conditions. Plenty of people down your way buy a boat and never use it much, then put it up for sale. And by all means seek BM's advice..he has his finger on the pulse down there.

I second that! My 1st boat was a 3K special bought from a friends father.... In 20 years, even though we replaced the transom and floor, and two motors ( both 2nd hand cheapies) I grew tired of worrying about transom cracks and regular problems associated with an old boat. Your budget gets you something new. It's obvious what I would do....;) And have done!!
