Just bought myself a secondhand 4.4 stacer seahorse with a 40hp yamaha oil injection trim and tilt tiller steer. What kind of oil should I be using for the oil injection?

Two stroke Yamilube or similiar at 100:1.

Hey mate, I have the same motor in a 50, I have found that the least smokey oils I have used are the Yamalube or Penrite outboard 2 stroke oil. Though I am about to try the Evinrude BD50 that is apparently less smokey again, in any case I have been pretty happy with the Yamalube and Penrite.

Was pretty disappointed with both the Valvoline and the Shell Nautilus stuff.

I have owned 2 Yamaha's now and I recomend the Yamalube

Good quality 2 stroke outboard oil tc-w3 rated. I have found both Quicksiver (merc) and Yamaha to be excellent and produced less smoke in my previous merc 2 banger at 50:1. Yours will be even better being oil injected. Do a search on this forum and you will find out more about who makes the different brands and plenty of opinions on what's best. I think Yamalube is produced by Caltex.

Being oil injection there should be no mixing...

the new model pre mix 2 bangers are run at 100-1.but yours does not need mixing.
be careful though because i just fried mine and have a suspicion that the oil injection may have been at fault[was told dirty fuel].
i used yamalube to answer your question.
the etec oil is a bit xe for me.

I've got the same motor on a similar hull. A seajay.

Why would you use anything else but Yamalube. If there is an extra cost of using this oil the cost cannot be factored in as the amount of oil used is almost zero unless you are running it flat out all day.

Even if you used a similar oil that is half the price it still wouldn't amount to muchas the smaller motors don't use much oil (or petrol for that matter)

My motor now has 38 hours on it, runs like a dream and not a lot of smoke at idle or any other speed.

I'm still waiting to have to buy another 4litres of oil.

When I bought the motor the dealer supplied the motor with the oil tank full. Bought a 4 litre container at the time and I still have 2 litres left, plus the oil tank is roughly 3/4 full at present plus a bit spare in another container.

No question in my mind.

Thanks for all the replys. I am a bit nervous about the reliability of oil injection so I might put it through for a service first up. It wont be under wty now so would anybody recommend someone they have had good experience with?

Yamaha Pre-Mix motors 30hp and below run at 100:1 (for about the last 10 years) above that it's 50:1
