We are looking at changing the twin 70hp Yamaha's (2 stroke) to 60hp 4 strokes
but are unsure if it will underpowered or not.

The yamaha's have been great but they are showing signs of old age.

We can only go to the 60hp 4 stroke due to weight restrictions on the pods as they are the alloy bolt on ones before they went to the combined pods.

Does anybody know of someone who has done the same?

I know a bloke that has one with 2 60hp yammys and it gets along ok but I think he regrets it. He is always talking about re-powering it. personaly I wouldnt do it but it makes it hard with the weight restrictions.

lets get the great debate going once again .lolololololol
if its weight your worried about an you dont mind the two bangers i'd have a look at the e-tecs or maybe the opti's as every one sprukes on how cheap they are to buy(opti) in comparison to all other motors ???
my 2 cents worths and i got to say E-ETEC :)

There's no weight advantage in getting an etec, and i thought about getting e-tec 90's! You would never get the etec 60's over the yami's !!!!!they are only 1kg lighter, yes 1kg and a 2 cylinder motor as opposed to the 4 cylinder yami they are also around 120cc less volume, really just a dud! The 90's on the other hand were a great option but with the new suki's only being 10 kg heavier they loose some appeal. Either way if you want 90's you need bigger pods!

Ian

Ps Stinki , did you notice the 60 e-tecs are only 1kg lighter! I have pointed this out to you before but you seem to keep missing it!;D ;D

yes ian
i was more thinking of the 90 etec as the replacements as you would have that extra bit of zoooooom with the 90's and the added benefits of less weight m8

How do the new 60hp Suzuki's stack up against the Yamaha's?

Jag078 I tried to reply to your'e pm but your'e inbox was full. I am one of the 7 that have gone to the F60's yammies and i dont regret it. I love em. They do work if they are set up properly, height/props etc. You have to get this right or they will feel too slow.

Ian, myself many others here know the height etc and will give you all the info you need. I sit on 23-25kts using getting 1.3klms/1 litre and I think that is great. Bigger motors 90 etc. will cost another 10K+ be heavier, dearer to run if opened up. I weighed it all up and the 60's are fine. You can come for a spin in mine if you like youll be suprised. I got 30kts outa mine empty and on my own but still can get about 27 28 kts loaded WOT. Unless you want to get there in a real hurry 60's are perfect. Deano..

Yeah thats a nice boat, i'm a regular boatpoint viewer. They're still gettin good money thats for sure. I've still got the original Trailerboat Fisherman article on them from way back when they had one as their project boat, i've read that a few times 8-)
