In light of RAT-KING's muffs incident, a question came to mind... I wonder if my Yamaha CV 30hp 2003 model has a rev limiting function if it gets too hot? I purchased it second hand and it didn't come with a manual... Have looked on some sites and it seems to list this feature in the specs, but websites are notorious for giving the wrong info, or info on a slightly different but similar model etc etc...

Anyone have a CV30 of similar vintage and know, or have experienced a rev limit event on this motor?

Hi BaitThrower,
There is a an over rev protection system on your engine that is controlled by the CDI.

"Over-revolution limit"......
30G : 5800-6200rpm
30H : 5695-6005rpm

"WOT r/min range".....
30G : 4500-5500rpm min.
30H : 4500-5500rpm min.

I do believe that he was referring to a rev limiter that will restrict the motor in event of an over heat or the like, not a max RPM limiter.

Sorry.... wrong rev limiter, but after having a look there are no thermosensors fitted to either engine which means no rev limiting/protection due to overheating.
