I have seen a boat recently with a short hardtop and extender rails that come back at least about 5 feet and a retractable screen like caravans and campers zips out to. No posts or anything, just two pipe rails and probably a thumbscrew or something. I suppose a similar setup could be made with two sockets to slide short pipes into as well??

I'd be guessing a bimini would be the go. if you want to remove it, probably a 2 bow bimini, that just bolts on.

check out bias boating etc, there are various bow widths available. only need to get within 100mm or so and you can still make it look good.

good luck with it

cheers

A lot of bigger boats have a slide out canopy extension. This gives you th eoption of either the shade or the space, depending on conditions and need. Personally I wouldn't touch a bimini in a fishing boat, just too many obstructions to fishing room with tie downs bows etc.

Justin,

I am thinking of doing the same with Alchemy. What I am looking at doing is having an alloy frame welded up with mounts up front that drop into the rocket launcher, then a couple of posts at the rear that drop into bait board rod holders. All I need then is to get a bit of soft stuff to attach to the top of the frame.

The extra height will keep it well away from my head when fishing, plus allow room for horizontal rod storage. The rod storage will be handy given the rocket launcher will be taken out.

If your esky is a walk around set up, then you could attach your rear supports to it, therefore keeping the transom clear. I'm hoping to get a price on this this week.

Regards,
Dave.

hey mate our barcrusher has one but it does require some round tubes welded for the frame to go into and a track welded on the roof for one half of the zipper to go into, i know u dont want to weld but its a good setup, if u cant find a way to do it with out welding i could prolly get some pictures to show u how ours is done. not much welding would be needed. and u dont need any tie down straps or anything. ours is quite a metre probably around 600 to 700 cm. but could see why 1m wouldnt hurt u could just make the frame tube bigger if u wanted to.

pulled the boat out to get some picks for yous u will notice the little black clamp on the bimini near the tube that is just to stop it from sliding in and u can unscrew it and tighten it if need be. ask any questions if u have any..
