I need a new marine battery for my boat [115hp mercury] with minimal electronics[ bilge pump and radio].

I am not not interested in the high tec and expensive batteries, just the standard lead/acid jobbies.

Would appreciate recommendations of brands or even what not to get.

Thanks in advance.

Marlin_ Mike is on the money, Seamaster Gold 720 cca (maintenance free) is the way to go. I use 2 and never have a problem.

Had a Pro 600 and didn't last 6months. Swapped over to a Exide and thats has been good.

Best thing is a Ctek, keeps your battery charged and maintained.

TRD you must have had a crook one. All brands have the odd crook battery, I assume you would have made warranty claim?

Tried with the RACQ dealer where I got it from down the coast and they told me that they were not a technically qualified to test the battery and that they couldn't replace it under warranty. Being from Brisbane didn't help either and everytime I took it down there they wouldn't replace it, they wanted me to buy a new one and they would send mine off to be checked and if it was a warranty claim they would give me a new one. Darn idiots. So no more Century for me.

I highly recommended a Century Marine Pro 600. Mine is about 4 years old.

I had an Exide N70 in my 4WD and it died just after the warranty expired.

seamaster for me, last one I had lasted 8 years cranking a 50hp marnier 2 banger, then 60yammie 4str, also running radio, nav light, bilge pump, sounder and a fe other ancillaries. We tried cetury as well, it lastd all of 8 months, century=poo as far as I'm concerned

Hi all,

I have used seamaster M70's in the past also and found them to be very reliable, Had dual bat. set up in last boat for almost five years without a drama. In that time I only did 180hrs of running so a lot of sitting around and still good.

I mentioned this to a good mate who was working at a battery place and he was not surprised at all. They are made by Supercharge (he told me) which have the highest specific gravity (SG) of any battery in oz, he also said that Century had the lowest SG and to steer clear of them, usually they are among the most expensive also (???).

Seamaster M70's are fitted to my current boat, I see no reason to ever change, unless I go Gell.

SeaMaster in my boat.
I only ever put it on a charger once a month if it's lucky. The bloody thing just keeps it's charge and hardly draws anything from the charger. The rest of the time it's just charged from the motor.
They are priced well and seem to be very reliable, I'd buy another one!;)

Century marine pro 600 for me. Supercheap auto were the cheapest to buy from in Vic. From the posts above it would seem all brands are generally as good as one another with the odd bad battery amongst them all. Just toss a coin.

I'm on my second Century Marine Pro 600 in 11 years. First one lasted about 4 yrs and the second one's only now begining to lose it's charge. A mate had a SeaMaster in his brand new boat powering a Yammie 115 + electronics. It lasted him about 6 weeks.

Cheers,
