Big Murray Cod still lurk in local impoundment
Richard Tegart and I fished Lake Burrendong last week in the hope of trolling up some big Murray Cod. After catching a small Yella and two juvenile Cod early in the evening, we were delighted when the 5-8kg bait caster loaded with 20lb braid bucked violently in the rod holder at 10.30pm. The fish showed all the signs of a descent cod as soon as the rod was picked up as it held deep and made several strong runs, including one straight at the outboard! After some quick photos the fish was released. The lure that did the damage on this occasion was a 7.6 metre Oar Gee plow, which was trolled 20 to 30 metres behind the boat and bashed along the rocks on the bottom.
