Dont know whether any of yous headed down that way but was a good comp and some awesome conditions for the start of the week, perhaps a little too good as some days there was no current and was hard even getting the red harries to bite. Endeed up bringing home a feed and couldnt have had better conditions. Can see plenty of photos on evansheadfishingclassic.com

We had a great week mate. Managed fish most days although biggest squire was only 60cm. Managed a couple of days out with my young fellas (15 and 7y.o), the fishing didnt really matter.

I commented on this last year but this comp does more damage to the area then good, being a local i have spoken to the pro fishos who say they dont bother working a few weeks after this comp as the grounds have just been hammered. If the comp was run over a weekend i have no problem but it is run for a week straight that much sustained pressure on the area isnt good, on the days where people cant get through the bar, the river is hammered, it just not sustainable for such a small river system and the surrounding offshore reefs. My rant over

Yeah fair enough breamboss we dont keep anything under 400mm but i do reckon it should be run over a shorter period and newsouth should have a smaller bag limit on snapper, its really up to fishos to limit the fish they keep. We didnt enter the comp but it is good to catch up with anglers from all over, it aint all about flogging the local reefs. Some of us are there for a good time and to just take home a few fish not trailer loads.
jurkyjj and stonecold, nice to see some people appreciate a good social gathering and exactly right.. IT AINT ALL ABOUT THE FISHING. Good to see you got a chance to take the youngins out, great place for the family. Wich boat were you in stonecold? I was in the old seafarer v-sea with the 90hp evinrude e-tec. blue and white.

I agree breamboss in certain respects but I think the only answer is not to have the event full stop. The committee has halved the normal bag limits which work for some fisho's. I had 5 ppl fish with me for the 7 days. Between the 5 of us we kept a dozen squire, a dozen trag, 1 jew a moses perch and 2 pearlies. I dont know how many trag and squire I threw back but lets just say it was heaps. I'll put some picks up of what I got out of the week later in the day. In my book we did the right thing. Yes I have a vested interest as I am local no I am a fisherman with an interest in seeing my kids catch great fish well into the future. Despite the efforts of the committee and fisheries I heard a second hand comment with regards to some boof heads going to the co-op to get ice. While there they put the esky on the scales and without ice they had 120kg of fillets! Now these blokes were staying not far from us and I can say that I doubt there claims but if its true then they should be ashamed of themsleves and were told so. Some idiots just can't help themselves. How "DO" you stop that culture...I doubt if good old fashioned violence would of helped either.
As far as the pros go, sorry but they get little sympathy from me. A fortnight before the classic one of the boys took 800kg of jew off one of the inshore reefs in one night. I doubt there was half that many jew taken in the entire classic.

His comment was..."how come I catch all the small ones dad?".....told him to catch big ones you gotta be able to catch small ones son...and so he did. Although not as bigs as I would have liked

His older brother "15" taught him how to scale a fish. Word for word how I taught him how to do it when he was only 7
