Hi Fellow Oz Fisho's,
Finally my dream boat has arrived and I was going to post a full report on what I went through with fisher boats from start to finish but to tell you the truth I just can't be bothered,
But I do want to say a huge thanks to Mick , he really did help me right from the beginning and I don't think I would have my boat today if it wasn't for him. Also to Darryl who did a great job on the fit out and also to Buddy Mania who kept in contact with me and helped me keep sane. Then to Mick Sanderson who honoured my contract which he wasn't really obligated to do, so thanks to all the these blokes.
Now to some offshore.
The plan of attack was to get a general feel for the boat and maybe get some fishing in at the same time. I left Sunday through the Wide Bay with a SSW blowing and headed out to the Pinnicles to do a little bit of trolling and get some more hours up on the motor. Normally mid winter I have jagged a couple of lone Wahoo in the 10 to 20 kilo bracket, but with some good weather I looked out on the horizon and the red fever got the better of me so I headed out to chase some reds.
Before going I went to one of my marks to get some grinners, some people may laugh at that but I believe them to be one of the best baits to catch reds. The fillets are hardy and tough but still flow through the water and resist pickers.
After getting out wide and looking at 5 to 8 bombies things where looking slow and a decision was made to head another 40 k north to some gravel area. These areas hold a good concentration of bait and when things are slow I always move to these areas. After putting a few lines out and drifting through the bait balls things seemed slow as well, it wasn't until I found a tightly packed school that the action started.
With the first drop I got smashed and then up popped a nice 10 kilo red. With a few undersized reds coming up it all slowed up so I moved north and searched more gravel areas. I found some more tightly packed bait balls and after a few drifts over this area up popped a nice 7 kilo snapper. With time getting on and a few more drifts I caught another 8 kilo red and headed for home.
