Hi all just purchased 93 Cruise Craft Outsider 580 hull only. I am chasing info on this hull ,like has it got any safety features like air sealed hull etc. also how does the toilet operate. need a good motor to 120 /150 4stroke ? 2 stroke fuel injected? and can anyone recommend trailer brand. Thanks Paul

G'day Paul,

congratulations on your purchase.

I'd reckon for a 580 outsider in a 4 stroke, a 150 yam would be the go. They are actually rated at around 163hp, and with the otusider being a bit on the heavier side for its size, I think you'd like the extra few neddies. the 140 'zuke would also come into the picture, I guess it all depends on your budget.

Personally I'd stay away from a 2 stroke, I had a 150 efi merc - not optimax - on my 6mt platey and it was very reliable, but also very thirsty at around 36-38 lts/hr @ 3800RPM. I replaced it with a F200 Yam and have never looked back.

No idea about the other questions you asked about - We looked at a 580 outsider a few years back and liked what we saw, but decided plate was better suited to our needs.

Hope you enjoy many hours of trouble free boating in your new pride and joy

cheers

Hi Paul,

I have a '93 580 Outsider, see my avatar. Have had it for 12 years now. Originally fitted with a 150hp Johnson 2 stroke, I repowered to a 150 Etec last year. The hull is rated to 185hp, but 150 is plenty IMO, 140 would be adequate. Lots were fitted with the 135 and 140hp Evinrudes when sold new.

Not an air sealed hull. The Topsides, cabin etc were made in one piece in the moulds and then fitted onto the hull. Makes for a much better finish I think.

My boat is moored, so no trailer experience with it. But I would reckon a double axle would be the way to go.

Here is a Boat test that might be helpful;

Fire away with any questions. Where are you located?

Cheers

Dave

Re the toilet, it should just be a portable camping type, not a built in jobby. Has a tank on the bottom that you need to empty when back on land. Most chandlers and camping stores will have them and the cleaners and chemicals to use in them.

Just check your restrictions for that now i believe that you must use a holding tank now illegal to flush into the ocean. My old seafarer ha a system like that . New seal kits are available for them via Bias

the toilet just cant be used in a marina it still can be used at SEA. as for the trailer make sure you go a good quality like a dunbier or redco etc as the boat will weigh abit once loaded (around 1800kg) and you want good brakes to stop you in a hurry just incase someone cuts you off.
