Here is my latest rod.
A Hastings GUSA C704DHX
The foregrip is snapper skin purchased from Mermaid Leather (http://www.mermaidleather.com/). They also do Barra skins, Shark & Stingray etc.
Alps SS guides top it off.
Tuna chasing flying fish weave is 88 x 191 - 9 layers done in Madeira.
I tried something a little different by using two wrap threads. A green madeira beside the gudebrod white & silver tri-mar. I was trying to achieve a tiger like effect. On reflection a darker colour may have been better. It did of course lengthen the weave, so an "A" or even "C" design thread would have been better for the proportions of the tuna, but this blank wasn't big enough so I left it as is.

Hey mate, that one is simply outstanding. There is absolutely a lot of time, patience and expertise in that rod.

There is another thread here abouts from a bloke looking at a custom rod built "cheaply" for him. Perhaps you might be interested. Just kidding. I don't think he knows what's involved in a work of art like this rod.

Best Regards
Mark

Thanks guys.
Yes, a lot of time.
But I only build for myself so it doesn't matter.

Exactly.
Lucky you have an understanding wife that also likes rod building and understands the time and effort that goes into a progect like that.
Fantastic job Owen.

Thats a work of art. I would be too scared to take it out in the boat

Thanks ML!

Horse,
I don't build any wall hangers. They all get used in the boat.
The split grips are a bit of a wank unless you have a rod locker or only fish lures.
They don't ride in holders well.
