Yesterday I had Andy back with his mate Brendon. Andy is proving somewhat of a big snapper expert. He jagged the good run I had in Feb/Mar 08 then got this new boat PB soft plastic 90cm one. 20lb braid, 25lb leader. I pulled in the drift anchor and took chase expecting a tuna by the way it fought. A good honest fish.

Not to be outdone Brendon latched onto this AJ on 30lb braid, 30lb leader. Same place as the snapper and totally unexpected. Once again we pulled in all the gear and took chase. After 20mins or so I was expecting a big longtail tuna as the likely suspect. Not that big fella off a gravelly area.

Not a bad little haul in the end getting our 3 kingies easily which we needed to get the bagout of AJ/kingies for a half day trip.

Today I had Daniel and mates Tom and Kevin out. The squire bit a lot harder with the one outstanding fish in the area. It was 75cm I think.

http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x197/blackfin15/Charters/2009/June/Pics029s.jpg

After we got sick of catching them the boys were all barred up to chase knigies. A handful of cubes and we had 30 milling around the boat wanting to be caught. Leaving a rod in the rodholder with the bare hook swinging below was a sure way to get hooked up for a while whilst we dehooked other fish. They went off. A bag was achieved in 5min flat. It was then out to chase cobia. There were none there today like Wednesday arvo so we headed wide. We put together a nice little feed of piggies there.

Got out this morning. No wind eventuated. Would have got the snapper bag as we threw a heap of 35-40s back but Darren and Graeme only kept the bigger ones. Got the kingy bag and let a heap go.

Today's report in another fishing forum.

"well headed up to mooloolaba early this morning to go out with smithy and yoyo for a morning soft plastic session! upon arrival to the first spot the action started straight away with my self landing a nice squire, then i hear yoyo's drag going hard and after a good battle he boats a 60cm grassy yeah haaaa http://www.brisbanefishing.com.au/components/com_kunena/template/default_ex/images/english/emoticons/w00t.png bloody yoyo out doing me again http://www.brisbanefishing.com.au/components/com_kunena/template/default_ex/images/english/emoticons/laughing.png the action continued as the sun rose with more quality squire and yoyo getting another great grassy slightly smaller, the wind started picking up and we caught a maouri cod each and and both missed some great hits! i will keep it short as yoyo will put one of his ol uncle yoyo threads together http://www.brisbanefishing.com.au/components/com_kunena/template/default_ex/images/english/emoticons/laughing.png all up was a great morning considering the wind conditions, a big thanks to smithy for the trip and putting up with the wind long enough for us to get a great feed!! i brought 4 good squire home but i let a couple go thinking that big 90cm snapper was waiting for me http://www.brisbanefishing.com.au/components/com_kunena/template/default_ex/images/english/emoticons/smile.png next time lol

"Greetings once again sportsfans, time for yet another episode of Adventures with YoYo.

Todays travels see ol' Uncle Yo employing his partner in crime from the MBC, Wesfish, in a man-on-man offshore plastics fishing duel to the death aboard Trident IV, with Smithy at the helm.

With puurrrrrrrfect weather throughout the week, we were actually worried the trip may get cancelled with 20knt wind predictions looming.
This morning saw us set off in clear skies and 10knot winds from Mooloolaba, immediately heading south-east to some inner marks off Caloundra.

Wesfish had armed himself with the ubiquitous 7" Gulp Jerkshad in Nuke Chicken, whilst yours truly had decided to go against the grain and go with the 7" Tandoori Chicken.
I have this thing about red on lures - it works.

First drift saw YoYo hook up quickly, only to get dropped about 10 seconds later http://www.brisbanefishing.com.au/components/com_kunena/template/default_ex/images/english/emoticons/sad.png

Almost immediately Wes's drag sprang to life and he boated the first fish for the day, a nice little squire.

Shortly after I boated a small squire at about 38cm, whispered a message in his ear "send your mum to look for you..." and sent him back home...

Looking to keep my title intact between us two, after beating Wes in his own boat at the MBC http://www.brisbanefishing.com.au/components/com_kunena/template/default_ex/images/english/emoticons/tongue.png I got to work on the Tandoori Chickens and was soon hooked up solid and getting a tour of the Sunshine Coast from something with considerable grunt http://www.brisbanefishing.com.au/components/com_kunena/template/default_ex/images/english/emoticons/w00t.png

We all called it for a big snapper, but were not disappointed at all to see a rock solid 60cm Grassy Sweetlip come up to the net....

http://i44.tinypic.com/14nlkl0.jpg (http://i44.tinypic.com/14nlkl0.jpg)

After this I boated a Maori Cod and Wes was Captain Consistency on the Port side with squires coming in regularly.

A resetting of drift spots by Smithy came about and shortly after the Tandoori chicken proved irresistable yet again as YoYo got hammered....

ThockWWWwwwZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzZZZZZZzzzzz (http://wwwzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz/) http://www.brisbanefishing.com.au/components/com_kunena/template/default_ex/images/english/emoticons/w00t.png

http://i39.tinypic.com/2nltri8.jpg (http://i39.tinypic.com/2nltri8.jpg)

Up to the net comes another Grassy, this one measuring in at 52cm.

http://i43.tinypic.com/hvcaac.jpg (http://i43.tinypic.com/hvcaac.jpg)

Wes then boated a Maori Cod as well (both were around 35cm) and also a couple more squire, until YoYo got absolutely violated by what we all could only assume was a pretty big snapper. There was more drag getting pulled out than mardi gras time, but unfortunately after 20 seconds or so the hook was spat http://www.brisbanefishing.com.au/components/com_kunena/template/default_ex/images/english/emoticons/sad.png

Pickings then started to get a bit lean and the wind strengthened to 15-20knts. Wes and I both changed plastics, he going to a large gulp wriggler and I went first to an Atomic 5" and then a Gulp 7" Neon watermelon.

Wes got another squire but I got nuthin'............ http://www.brisbanefishing.com.au/components/com_kunena/template/default_ex/images/english/emoticons/ermm.png

Decided it was time to switch back to the tandoori chicken and sure enough....

THUMPWWWWwwwwzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz......... (http://wwwwzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz........./)

http://i44.tinypic.com/33z92s1.jpg (http://i44.tinypic.com/33z92s1.jpg)

A very feisty fight from a 47cm model Squire....

http://i39.tinypic.com/2i6f51j.jpg (http://i39.tinypic.com/2i6f51j.jpg)

Wes then switched to a 60g Lucanus jig and quickly found it to someones liking about 25m down.... a short, solid fight ensued until the hooks were spat before colour was seen...disappointing...

The bite really slowed up after this and repeated drifts yielded on small hits periodically. The wind had picked up to a consistent 18-20 knots and we decided to call it a day.

Smithy had us back at the boat ramp at 11am, Wes with a brace of 4 (5?) Squire and YoYo taking home a PB Squire at 47cm, a PB Grassy at 60cm and his younger brother at 52cm.

Thanks to wesfish for offering the open spot to me and thanks to Smithy for putting us onto some great fish in a short timeframe, in less than optimum conditions.

If you're planning on a reef trip with ultimate flexibility and low numbers (2-3 fishing pax), give Smithy a call and tee something up. You might end up paying a fraction more, but it's worth it to not be on a sausage-sizzle bottom bouncing trip with 10-12 other people.... "

Snappy little trip this morning to try and beat the wind. My spot has gone off for some reason. Less bait shows, but similar snapper shows.

Friday's trip. Had a couple of the boys from Ausfish aboard. Honda900 and Adam G.

The golden was a bit of a surprise for that area.

http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x197/blackfin15/Charters/2009/June/IMG_0555s.jpg

Chris also got the best snapper. It was part of a double and a similar one to this was lost when the hook pulled.

It has been a tough couple of days in the wind. Matt and Rob hung in and persuded me to go wide yesterday which payed off. We started off in close on the soft plastics with Matt scoring a pan size squire on an octopus jig before about 20 knots of SW wind came through. We played around in close trying to get out of the wind and eventually headed wider around lunch time once it abated. In the end we got a few pearl perch, a few snapper and a couple of kingfish off a couple of marks.

Matt and a pearlie.

yerh too right there was only 2 of us out on my boat saturday night and from start to finish the motors never stopped, i found some awesome fish but the weather was just against us, they were rolling over the motors in some spots.

this week ahead doesnt look much better either at this stage. the big swell coming should stir things up a little.

Weather bureau wrong again yesterday. Cancelled and got my motor serviced while all the obs were less than 10knots. Organised an arvo trip. Couldn't quite get 10/10 but got 8. Looks like the BOM are wrong again this morning and I should be out there not sitting on the computer.

Put up with 20knots of NW the morning before. Bit better quality but only found them mid morning after lots of running around and looking.
