They are still a 2 stroke so are going to be thirsty. When comparing 225s when we repowered the Signature, a 225 Merc gave F&B magazine its record fuel consumption back in those days of something over 100 litres per hour at WOT. That was on a 244 Alison Ocean Angler. With the Yamaha 4 banger we ended up getting, I don't think we could ever get anything worse than 56-60 litres per hour at WOT.

Fuel figures are 1.25 km per l does that sound right?
I would do maybe 30hr per year so the fuel is not as much of a problem.
140km round trip so the fuel would only be the differance of maybe $30-50 per trip.

Mate, big strong reliable engine with plenty of boondy however as Smithy stated WOT fuel consumption is frightening, given that you are talking 30 hrs a year and presuming you would rarely travel full boar for extended periods it is a good choice. What hull is it on.

I have a 150 EFI and love it..gotta love the hole shot..PLUS...you are not boating unless you have those wonderful exhaust fumes.

Hi, I believe that they are being generous with those figures, would be closer to 1 km/l "normal" cruise, and deteriorate from there.

Had a 175 johno on my 19' Haines and that returned very close to 1 km/l.

But, as you have stated, 30 hrs a year will not have a huge impact on $$$ fuel wise.

Have fished on a R/Runner with the 200 Merc Efi. Apart from the obvious 2 stroke downsides, boat went really well and was a great match for the boat. Plenty of power when you needed it. wasn't that bad on fuiel as you rarely go flat out and most is done well within the cruise range of the motor.

I'm in a similar way re hours to you and have a 200 yam. the fuel at these hours really isn't an issue.

G'day KF,

I had a 2005, 150 efi on Flamin Riptide - I put 150 hrs on it in just on 14 months - it was reliable and a very strong motor - best fuel was around 36ish litres per hour at around 3800 RPM. That was a little less than 1 litre per klm.

The major issue for me with 235lire fuel tank, I'd use nearly all of that on a trip to the Hards in a day.

I was able to change over to a similar aged 200 four stroke. and the major reason was the distance I could travel - and because my hours per year are up there a bit, yes the affordability of our fishing trips as well.

But if that is not an issue for you, just be sure you don't limit your range when you do want to go a bit further, check what the capacty of the fuel tank is and work it from there

cheers

Rhys

tank is 320l so even at 1km per l thats still further than I want to go
