Hi Guys just wondering if there are any other split cane rod makers in or Brisbane or Queensland for that matter, or am I the only nutcase:-/
Probably just you ;)
The last couple of years there's been a rod building weekend in Brissy.
If you know a bit about it (split cane), maybe you should go along and give a demo.
You're sure to infect a couple of others with the bug.

Walldog, what are the advantages of split cane rods or do you just like doing them. My father had one that was left to him by his father in law, from memory it was hexagonal. Is this common.

Hi Guys,
Owen: Thanks for the tip, show and tell on cane rods is easier said than done though, considering the average rod (7'6", 2 tips) takes about 40 hours not counting dying times.
Jerson: No real advantages, its a feel thing, cane fishes different, not better or worse just different. The most common type is the Hex rod , 6 sides; I mostly make Quadrates (4 sides, lighter & faster) and Pentas (5 sides).
Hooknose: Mostly I make Fly rods but also a few spinning and casting rods, I am currently working on a 8' Twisted Acid Casting rod for my old man (Twisted Hexagonal with the guides spiraling from the top to underneath the rod, very fast, very stable , seriously different)
