I have 130 yammy 2stroke on my 555 with a 17k prop on the back, today trip in the bay got me thinking.i did 50miles by the yammy gauge and i used 72l of fuel that comes back to 1.1l to every km (i Think) is that good because I'm really thinking about an upgrade to 150 4st

your thoughts would appreciated

Thanks
Joe

PS:170L over the weekend and still fishless just out of pocket a lot of fuel:'(

You may just about double that with a Yammy f150 at economical cruise. F&B did the test on a Haines RF 600 and got 1.02 NM (1.88km)/litre out of the f150. Probably expect a bit better with your boat.

Is the transom rated for the weight at around 200+ KG's

Hey Joe you could be a bit out on your calcs. 50 mile is about 90km so if you used 72l its a bit less than a litre per KM which is probably about right. There is a guy on here (Honda 900) that had that same setup and would have the stats.

joe 09,

Jase is right, I had the same problem, bought the yalta with a 130 yam, (great motor) but range was a big issue. I installed an ep10 (fuel flow meter) at purchase, that gave me accurate data on my lowrance sounder.

Basically I was getting 1ltr a km offshore, wich severly limited my range with a 150ltr tank. I had the same prop as well.

So 12 months after buying the boat did a lot of investigation only had one choice to fit, suzuki 140, "check your compliance plate" for weight on the transom. As you will find the yam 150 is too heavy for the boat, (will void all insurance).

With the zuke I am getting 2.10 kms per litre so I now have double thed range. It took me a while to sort out the propping of the engine but, I literally have not lost anything in the horse power stakes in the change over. I have lost a little in mid range speed down about 4ks per hour, but the engine runs hihgher in the rev range so I run it the extra 200 rpm to make up the difference.

The only other option is an etec 130 which may fit in the weight range but wasnt available 15 months ago when I was looking.

If you do a search on suzuki 140 prop in the boating section you should find all the speed and fuel data I recorded when doing the prop testing. if not Pm me and I dig it up for you.

Honda is right check the max transom weight I think from memory its 200Kg. 150 Di 2 strokes like the Etec would be under that.

I am fairly sure Marine Tune fit a 4 banger 150 (yam of course) to the 555 as an option. How do they manage that?

g'day
have read been reading the comments on the post and have been thinking about up grading myself to a 4 banger....have been to a few dealers and done a bit of reserch and to be honest if you are a bit heavy handed on the trottle like i am you are better with a e-tec or a optimax as they seem to be better on fuel by about 5 %.....but if you are just cruisin better going for a 4 banger....have a few figures from a brocher a 150 yammie 4 banger at4500 revs uses approx 27 ltr/hr but at 5800revs it uses about 57ltr/hr...dont think that would be much better than what you are gettin now...the suzuki 150 is very similar to the yammie...as for a few prices i have got on a 150 the optimax is $17800,the e- tec was $19300 ,suzuki was $20 300 a mer verado was $23220 and the yammie 4 banger was $22600....+ approx 600 fitting also got a price on the 130 e-tec which was around %15800 fitted...hope this info helps...i am still deciding....
cheers rosco
p.s most come in at 194 kg for an xl...the verado was 230kg

Actually the compliance plate reads 190kgs, so really check..

the 150 yam weighs in at approximately 220 for the xtra long.
http://www.yamaha-motor.com.au/marine/index.htm?range.asp?therange=fs

the hpdi yam weighs in the same as the 4 stroke, a mate of mine has one and says the economy is pretty good as well.

http://www.yamaha-motor.com.au/marine/index.htm?range.asp?therange=fs

Dry weight on the opti 150 is 195kg..
http://www.mercurymarine.com/engines/outboards/optimax/twofiveliter_specs.php?ID=54

and the 135 opti weighs the same.

Really the choices get very narrow when you check it all out..

Reading between the lines of a lot reports and followers of brands, I dont think you can really go wrong with any of the late model 2's or 4's in the high tech department.

Honda.
