Hi all
Just want to know what you would do with this. The paint is starting to bubble around our bait tank where the screws are. Obviuously there was no Duralac used IMO and now the paint is bubbling.
I have not taken the bait tank out to see how far this has gone. Should it be up to who installed the bait tank to fix it. I told them nothing was to be put in the boat without Duralac on it and i was assured they used it??? Really looks like it.
What would you guys do???

Take it out and have a look to see if any sealer was used around the tank and screw holes and whether the bare metal from the cutout was primed/painted/sealed.
Take pictures and then take back to the dealer/installer, rip into them. Ask for the paint to be fixed and bait tank installed properly as you requested.
I have had two stainless rod holders in the back of my Alum transom for over 2 years and fitted them ensuring no bare metal and all surface coated with Sika - Not a hint of bubbling compared to the press studs fitted by the clears supplier people with no sealer which bubbled within months.

Which ever way you decide, they fix or you fix it, inspect for all possible occurrences and get it done now.
It is a malignant condition and it will continue to rot away the aluminium surface beneath the paint.
There is no surface treatment that can stop it, it must be sanded out and fully re-protected.
Best method is to drill the screw holes slightly oversize and paint the bare metal first before applying duralec on installation once the paint has dried.
Also be weary of installing components that have black RUBBER gaskets, black rubber contains "carbon black" which also starts the galvanic corrosion process on painted aluminium boats. Carbon (graphite) is at the very worst end of the scale to aluminium.
See text below plucked from the link:
Graphite-containing gaskets, seals, packing and lubricants should not be used in contact with stainless steels in contact with sea water. Carbon black in rubber is a common source of this graphite; significant variations in the galvanic effect occur due to the use of different rubbers containing various amounts and types of carbon black filler.

Hi
Well spoke to the dealer today and am still not happy. No resolution to the problem. Suggestion was to ring Formosa but they aren't the ones who cut the hole and supplied the bait tank. If it was on something from factory then it would make sense to ring them. Was told to ask for a paint pot and lightly sand it and then paint around it-- YEH RIGHT.
Will speak to factory and see what he suggests -- go back to dealer and ask them to foot the bill for the repairs.
Will keep you posted.
Hey Lee-- apparently the fuel filter is fitted factory so i was told today. Will have tto find out about that one??
Cheers

Has the boat got enough anodes and do you isolate your battery as these also play a role in this situation.Jim
