Took a mate from Longreach for a bit of a fish on Sunday morning. Headed out from the ramp in perfect early morning conditions out to a spot about 20miles offshore. Ended up with a full bag of Spanish and got onto a school of mixed trevally that were smashing jigs on the bottom. Two winds and we were hooked up every drop. Good fun on 12lg braid.

Best of the Macs was about 10kg. The rest were around the 8kg mark. Perfect size for eating.

well done, and yes you seem to be the only one who can find them atm. So what methods/bait/lure did the damage?

and yes, trevally do pull hard, especially on light gear, pity they have such a strong flavour about them.

Laser pro in the pinky blue colour and Rapala Xraps in the red/white and Green/Orange. I make thai fish cakes out of the trevally ang i must say they have a good firm texture that lends itself nicely to fish cakes.

That's a great trip Shanoss and a good feed too.

Did you have to upgrade your hooks at all?

Any hooks straighten out? Or was the standard stuff ok?

I'm only using 8kg mono for the macs and 12lb braid for the trevally, so not really too much of an issue with hook strength.

Sounds like fun and a good feed Shane...good onya for fishing a bit lighter on the pelagics, just need a decent leader ...in that size range they are no fun at all on 50 lb line are they..?

And like you said those size spanish are a great size for the table...smaller the better IMO...

Good spot isnt it for macs, they are everywhere around it.Have been all year.Used to be no boats on it until a loud mouthed fishing guide took a few blokes from a local boat shop there now everybody goes there>:( .

Curious to know, how it is you think you know where i was fishing.... 20 miles covers a big area, and there are certainly no land marks in the picture..

Have fished quite abit 20 mile out I think its actually about 21.5 from coast guard ramp
Would be surprise if I am wrong but if I am keep it secret my spot was ruined by a local guide who sold his boat and decided to take a few blabber mouths out there
