Got out to have a look at the conditions at Ballina atm. Anyone for a trip outside. Hope the photos come out good enough. These where taken at high tide and the bar and beaches have got a fair bit worse coming up to the low. One shows what it should look like from home.

That last pic looks much nicer!
Any sand left on the beaches up there?
Hope the keen lad in the 3rd pic gets a feed for his effort....
Cheers.

The beaches are getting stripped. Flat Rock esp has lost a heap of sand. I couldnt get down there with my son to get any shots. In parts the banks are 6 foot high where the sand used to be. The beach below my house is not much better. It is covered in sand normaly but is now a mix of pebbles etc. Not good after the last few wash outs that have occured. I didnt see that guy do any good which wasnt a suprise. There is too much crap coming out of the river. Half of Lismore and the surrounding area is down at Ballina atm, if it wasnt bolted down its down here now. I rekon in a couple of days though it will be good for the jewies.

Yeh Mark i am getting a bit ahead of things hoping for the best for Sun arvo. There is so much crap beside the walls though and a lot of fresh flushing out. Oh well a shark or two will be fun until things improve. Seabreeze is predicting the swell to start dropping from tonight. Tues just under 2m through until the end of the week.

Watch you don't snag a cow coming down with the flood water. I saw one or two in the last flood. Also hope we don't end up with another massive fish kill. The last one was heart breaking, seeing big fish in the tens of thousands scooped up in the bobcat...
Lennox beach down my end (near the boat channel) has lost so much sand. Haven't seen it like that for years.

tester theres bound to be some dead uns floating down the river.....cant be helped unfortunately as the water came up quick. Pity they cudnt be set for crabs near the river mouth rkn we'd kill em.
The beach at flat rock was bad enough before the storm with a 3-4m drop from the top of the sand dunes.....guna have to have a carreful look b4 i drive the ute onto sth ballina beach nxt week! hate to drive off the drop off!

Flat Rock is stripped. I thought the banks were 6' but at least twice that in parts. Shelly and Lighthouse are the same, nearly all the sand gone and the sand dunes are going as well. There is no sand at all in front of the surf club. One positive though is it's my best Tailor spot when when there is a gutter. Now there is a massive gutter and twice as much rock to fish from. Havent got up to Lennox to have a look but it couldnt be good. I guess it is the same down the coast.
So far no dead fish on the beaches but time will tell when the flats drain off.

Might have to wait to get onto Sth Ballina Mark. I will have a guess and say the track is washed out.

Hey fellas

last night the water was lapping halfway up my driveway and the tide is bigger tonight, the rivers a mess,i'd imagine there would be some rubbish down south beach, there should be some really good holes and gutters down there when things settle down

Muzz and Mal, you guys could put some baits out near the drains. Might pick up a muddie. Did you see the one the guy got in the street in the Advocate the other week. Interesting to see how far the water comes up tonight.

Hi again and thanks Scott,
I am surprised that anyone would be out there fishing in those conditions.
There is only one bloke I know that would be mad enough to go out when its like that and that would probly be that Rabbi person with the flouro yellow rainpants and flannelette shirt..
Was that you with the young bloke?
I got hit about 3 times but they had too much mud in their eyes.
There were more jew around while the water was muddy than when it cleared up and they are all but gone now.
At least they shifted the navigation buoy off the south wall that had washed down in the flood. Had a hell of a time playing a fish around that one.
cheers, Steve.

Serious that was you out there. You must be keen. I didnt think there would be anything in there, you might see me next time then. Yeh i took my son down for a walk and also up to boulders. He loves it. Cant wait till he is old enough to go for a fish out there with me and neither can he. That marker buoy gave me a suprise when i went out there the other week. There is one down at Iluka as well.

Hi again,
Yeah, I was surprised that there were jew out there with the thickness of the crap in the water but honest, there was a school of big jew erupted in the thick muddy water the next day after you took the pics and there must have been 20 or 30 of them. I got an 18kg jew on an S.P and they fired up for the next few days and then were gone and are still gone now.
A few mates of mine got some good fish in the dirty water too.
The ocean has reclaimed quite a few metres of sand dune on all local beaches and I am surprised the Ballina bar has not sanded up. It had to go somewhere!
My 15 year old is just taking an interest in jewing but I dont know if I would be such a good teacher with safety on the rocks :-/
Too much of a mountain goat myself!
Cheers, Steve.

Hey Steve i think i met you on sth wall when Mark and his mate were out there. i was the one who turned up late and missed all the fun.
Sand is still gone from the beaches. There is no low tide at shelly, the water is high all day it has been stripped that bad.
At 15 i'm suprised he doesnt just knock your gear of and go by himself.

Ok, I remember you now,
Yeah jewing is a precise art as they are more punctual than most people I know.
I might have to lock up the jew lures when cayden gets his car licence :)>
Too far for him to ride his mountain bike from Alstonville. Be ok going down the cutting :)>
Cheers

Nothin Steve...shoulda turned around when I saw you. A 6 inch graze down my right shin from a jump gone wrong didnt motivate me much either. The wind made it near impossible to fish with any feel. left at 1ish a bit sore and sorry.

Bugger,
There is a load of junk around out there so its a bit hard at the moment. i must have left at the right time.
I took a knock to my left leg a few days back under my wet gear and the rocks must be getting harder as it did not feel too bad when i did it but i got a nasty cut and a lump that looked like half a tennis ball ( cept not yellow).

Hi Guys.
The peashooter is no more R.I.P.
High sticked it today landing a nice fish.
What was left of it was casting ok, had nil taper but it still had 3 runners on it.
Went and bought a new one but it just does not have the same vibe, Gonna have to train it!!
Very dead out there today compared to previous outings.
Dirty water is getting away.
Not sure if I am doing the right thing but here it is.
1.5 metres long and 36kg whole.
Pardon the background.
Steve.

Great fish mate...I found a section of pea shooter yesterday and pondered its life momentarily before carrying out a ceremony befitting of its courage....sad isnt it when one has to contemplate if they're doing the right thing by sharing a pic of what is the fish of a lifetime with others.

Good Peashooters are hard to find Mark!
Bought a new Penn rod in the 6kg range and it seemed a fairly fast taper and I thought it would be okay. sadly it turns out to be lacking somewhat and the tip is just too soft to set the hook even with sharp hooks. The jew inhale the lure and spit it back out before the tip takes up the flex
pile of junk!
Going back to Big W to get one the same as I had before, if theres any left!;D

That is an awsome fish Steve. Mark is right about the pick, sad that it may be knocked by some.
Well the new stick seemed to work today. I am licking my wounds and bitching about a sore back and dented pride. Oh well guess its character building. Next time maybe.

Well its started already.
I am a 48yo single dad who has a stressful but satisfying career with a government department and I love fishing as a form of fun, relaxation and therapy.
I do shiftwork so I have lots of time to enjoy my hobby in the hours that most people are doing their 9 to 5 thing.
I am also a member of a local fishing club and we do the friendly competitive pastime of competing against each other and its a challenge to see who has the skill to outfish other good fishing club members, And it is a SKILL!
I have weighed in some nice jew lately for the club comp. because of the favourable conditions and also achieved a personal best jewfish as seen in this post.
I spend a lot of money at local tackle shops buying my fishing gear.
BUT, What I will not tolerate is being labelled a black market shamateur and being accused of selling fish and taking everyone elses share of fish. This is a complete fallacy fabricated by people who are jealous or whatever.
I have never sold fish to anyone or swapped it for anything in my life.
My jewfishing mates would disown me if I did that!
And if I find out that a certain local store owner is helping spread this bulls**t I will never darken his doorway again.
I have copped a lot of flack from just enjoying my hobby, within the legal boundaries.
I have helped a heap of people to reach a pinnacle of their lives by catching the fish of their dreams by teaching them the skill of catching jew.
I have released unharmed more jew than most people catch in their fishing career.
This may be the last anyone will hear from me in the form of help and reports and letting people know when, where and how to catch these beautiful fish.
All this has taught me is to do my own thing regardless and keep my mouth shut about what I do to enjoy my life.
To all my friends and people that support me, Thanks.
To everyone else, Get a life!!
Cheers, Steve.
P.S Mark and Scott. That was an absolute hoot today and thanks for the laughs. Have patience Scott, it will come together big time one day.
If you guys wish to send me a P.M with your phone numbers, email address or the like and we will work on the technique :D

Dont let it get to you Steve. The way you explained it out there today said it all to those there. Its also a local thing and not the guys here on ausfish. I think they would love to see that fish in the reports ( might be 1 knocker but there always is even with bream, the majority would appreciate the catch )

That was good out there today. Shame for me a lot of the laughs were at my expense, you get that though in fishing when you are the only one not get a thing. I WILL GET ONE THOUGH !!!!

Ahh Steve.....dont really now what to say at this point....well yes I do but the software keeps blankin it out... I dont really give 2 sh#*ts if I catch a fish or not. I Fish to enjoy the company of my mates both new and old. If i catch a fish its a bonus. I had a great arv....with the exception of the gaff mishap (1st fish that Ive seen since 1991 and not had on the Fkn gaff!, I was apprehensive about goin down there with only my work boots on and a sprained ankle from yesterday).
I have no doubt we will share a long friendship regardless...my email is mark31068@h*tmail.com.
As an aside... actually you should of had a throw with "MY" short rod I rkn its got your's covered!!!!

Thanks guys,
Sorry bout that outburst as I was so pissed of yesterday that I didnt mind telling those people that I dont give a @$*% what they thought.
I enjoyed what transpired out there as thats what getting out there is all about, having fun regardless of what is caught, or lost at the gaff :) just ribbing you yesterday about that cause I like to see them swim off but next time point the hook at the fish:)>. Some of the timing was spot on. Scott wont say anything from here on in if he gets a bump hey!
One of the blokes that had a go at me yesterday went out this morning and there were 6 jew fishos out there and they got zip! And one of them had the hide to ring me up this morning to ask me what they were doing wrong!!! GEEZ!! what morons!!
Keep your eyes peeled for an upcoming article in the Bush and Beach mag as I heard there may be a story bout black market jew in ballina in it and its sposed to be aimed at me for weighing in a couple of nice jew for my club. There are some bored , sad people out there.
I hate to be labelled when nothing is based on fact.
Mark, you need to cut at least a metre of that rod as the one I used yesterday was only 1.8 metres.
Dont laugh but my email address is Lockjaw@exemail.com.au
If you go out the same time as we were there yesterday you will get fish today.
cheers,steve.
