I am looking at getting a plate boat built. I am getting quotes from a quite a few different makers. Many of the brands I have seen out on the water whilst fishing up here and have heard reports from ECT

There are a few southern manufacturers that I am unfamiliar with, but I like the look of their products

These include Downunder Boats 4.8meter hard top with a 100hp yam 4 stroke on it and the Cougar Craft 5.5 Reef hunter

Does anyone have any experience with either of these boats

Are there any other Plate builders that you can recommend and also any negative aspects that they may have.

Tono - What price would a 530 cuddy Poly come in at? I have never really been a fan of the bigger polys on apperance ect. I would be worried about re sale as they seem to have a limited market.

Welder; I could not find anything under 7 plus meters lol.

Have you got Noble Boats on your list. Their SuperVee is an awesome hull, and they are finished brilliantly. Built in the Redcliffe area.

Thanks mate,

Unfortunatley (for the missus) the budget is getting stretched more and more ever week, as I couldn't find a decent 5- 5.5m platey built (so far) for under 35K.

Has anyone seen the new Stessel center consoles? They are flogging them for under 35K for a 5.5 meter brand new.

Are they ''true'' Plate boats with a sealed floor ect?

If your looking for a great CC under 35k look no further that this ripper in the forsale section! There imho isn't a plate or glass mono in this lenght that will come near it as far as performance goes!!! I'm very suprised that it hasn't been sold yet!

I have looked at that over a dozen times. It is a ripper of a boat Ian. The only thing that I don't like about it is the raised casting platform up the front. I also looked at another on but it had a 2 stroke 130 yam on it and I am chasing a 4 stroke.

Take one for a spin - it'll blow anything mentioned here in the same length out of the water.
Don't believe me though - I'm biased caused I've got one.

Just curious - why do you not like the foredeck?

Nick

Take GBC's advice and see if you can get the owner to take you for a spin , you will be very impressed !!!

As Maztez said, give Phil at Viper a call, here is an example of what he can do..http://www.ausfish.com.au/vforum/showthread.php?t=131217&page=6
I am sure Brejen will give you the contact number.

GBC,

It does not appears to be very high and looks to limit fishing space in rough weather?

I have a problem of taking one for a spin as I live in Cooktown and have not ever seen one in Cairns let alone up here.

I read the review on sea media and they got a good rave. Are they a dry boat for a center console?

yer Nick I haven't seen one in Cairns either, let alone one that you know well enough to take you out for a run. But isn't this going to be the case for most of the boats you are looking at?
Try heading down to the pub or the ramp on a flat day and chat with the locals, see what their set-ups are and get their opinions.
