Headed up to rainbow to meet the old man and go for a fish, weather was supposed to be perfect wednesday and thursday but conditions were far from perfect. Ended up fishing a little bit of a ledge we know holds good snapper if they are around.

Got to the mark just as the sun was coming up, probably an hour to late in all reality but we had to wait for some light to cross the bar as we hadn't crossed it in almost 12 months and it has changed quite a bit.

I got one nice knobby on the first drift and a nice pearly, thought we could be onto a few good fish but as the sun come up the wind picked up and we started drifting too fast, decided to anchor up and first drop saw Bob get his first legal red, once again hopes were high but the fish just didn't want to play the game. Hooked into a good fish on a live yakka only to get it up to find it was a leopard shark about 7-8 foot long, line was cut and off he swum, tried a couple of other spots without much luck and decided to head in early as it was getting very bumpy. Ended up with a mixed bag of coral bream, parrot, squire, etc only around 20-25 fish.

Couple of pics attached.

Got a 2 day 2 nite charter off Fraser on 11-13th so hopefully get stuck into the red fish on that!! There is two spots available if anyone is interested details are in the meet and greet section.

only 20-25 fish!!!...we should all be so lucky Anthony :P...thats a top shelf snap by the way...nice one!!!...love the piccie of the red...congrats to Bob :D
when you hook up..do you get the fish up as quick as possible or do you take it easy...the reason i ask is as youre pulling one fish up...others may follow it...it may give the other anglers in the boat a chance to hook up...
cheers for the piccies and report :D

Thanks for the comments all.

Was fishing 50-60 metres mostly.

Typically try to get the fish up reasonably quickly, especially with reds as they have a tendency of pulling hooks or rubbing your line through depending on where you hook them. When the snapper are on the bite on that spot we have bagged out in under an hour on fish 3-7kg so 20 or so fish for a day is pretty quiet in all reality, most were only pan size.

The snapper went 4.5-5kg and the red was about 4kg, nice fish none the less, and the red tasted beautiful for dinner that night :)
