After two years of backing down boat rampps the wheels on my Dunbier boat trailer are decidedly dull and dirty.

What method are people using to bring back the shine? I heard that WD40 sprayed on, left for a while and wiped off has some impact....

Other ideas?......:-/

I have used ally brite worked a treat, also some of those mag wheel cleaners will probably work.

Are they alloy or galvanised?

Galvanised (absolutely no rust!).....

Go and wire brush them off, and then get some white galmet and spray a few coats on. It lasts forever and looks better than crappy gal.

G'day,

If they are gal and rust free wash with warm soap and water and leave them alone. Dull without rust is the best you can hope for.

If they are alloy (NOT POLISHED) you can use a proprietary alloy wheel cleaner or make your own. The recipe for alloy wheel cleaner is two parts oxalic acid to one part citric acid (i.e. 2 parts onion juice to 1 part lemon juice). Add a bit of detergent if you want to help loosen dirt. Scrub with fine steel wool or a stiff brush.

If they are polished alloy, paint them.
