headed out to the top end of the barwons friday afternoon in great conditions with high expectations. Had a few drifts for little result then found a nice piece of ground in about 40m with a good show and anchored up for the evening bite. Burleyed hard and fished floaters and bottom bashers. Result was 2 squire just on dark on the floaters and heaps of undersize redthroat off the bottom. Blew up to a solid 20knots just after dark and stayed that way all night and put most of us off the fishing and into sleeping bags. Got up at 3:30am to give it another go, hooked a couple of cobes but only got 1 to the boat at around 8-10kg. Few pearlies, sweetlip and assorted reefies made up the rest of the bag and pulled the pin around 9am with only 12 fish in the esky. Fish were very timid and the only rig that worked was a 6 ball onto a single snapper hook kept just off the bottom - and only fresh squid or mullet for bait, they wouldnt touch pillies or yellowtail pike. Bit of a dissapointing trip but thats fishing! sorry no photos
