Hi

After a long search I have found a HH 580sl that I'm extremely keen on, the only problem is that it has a 225Yammie 4 stroke motor. is this too big or just perfect?

Thanks for the info.

Regards

should be a badge on rear of boat with max hp or/and weight of outboard as long as it within this it would be ok.
at a guess hp should be fine, weight would be only problem but check manufactures label
it will be a very quick boat and economical as you wouldnt have to rev to hard to get there. i

I have a haines 565l max rated 240hp, it has a 140 4stroke and i break into a laugh each time i fill it up after a trip even when fuel was a lot dearer. it plods along all day at 20knots, 4000rev very quiet comfortable and cheap ride.

Someone on this forum would have same boat for better responce.

I owned a HH 580 SL in the early 80's & I had a 200hp Merc 2/s & it was great, the problem that I would be worried about would be the weight of the 4/s & provided that it was within the transom weight limits & HP limits the hull likes a bit of power.

Interestingly the 580F Haines Signatures are only rated to 112kw or 240kg.I will check out what the rated hp to kw is on the merc website.Ive got a 135hp on mine,it goes very well.Jim

Just had a gander at the merc web site.Looks like my boat the 580F would be only able to go to the 150hp motor in the optimax version rated at 110kw and 195kg.The transom can handle up to 240kg.The 580sl would be a bullet with a 225hp on it.Jim

pod it with some flotation on either side and get it re rated . if the hh is real old might be cheaper to look for a 19 or 21 ft old hh and do up unless it already has been . the 21 would be the best choice thou 250 four stroke would not be hard to sell i reckon

Mate that would be a gun motor in that boat, look at some of the great turd herdin motors they put in little dodgy skiboats. Having said that take it for a run and check its handling characteristics and talk to prospective insurers. That boat would use less fuel than one with say a 150. Ive been in the 600r with a 225 and it was great(needed trim tabs but). If the price is right for you happy days. The 225 and the 200 are virtually the same and theres plenty of 580s about with them. They are a solid hull and not much can go round em in that size when the going gets rough , the only thing the cruise craft, sseafarer allison etc fullas will see is the sticker on the back and it wont be for long;D
