View Full Version : Please Fix My Shoulder

Tom is recovering from shoulder surgery and was in need of some exercise to rebuild some muscle. His son Richard was also visiting from Melbourne so it was an opportune time to get them both out for a lesson in arm stretching.

Although the fish were not monstrous the AJs came in at about 8 – 10 kg and if you have ever been on the receiving end of an Amberjack or Kingfish, you will know that a healthy shoulder will have enough trouble let alone one that is recovering from surgery.

I also took Peter along to fill the boat. Sorry Scotty (Reel Screem). Next time.
The wind was blowing a good 15 knots from the South West but at about 10:00AM it dropped to just a very slight breeze creating mill pond conditions.

There is still a bit of swell about but nothing to get worried about.
Although we tried very hard to get a few Snapper all we got was a few Maori and Estuary Cod.

Jim and Ryan (Captain Rednut) were out there catching plenty of Yellow Fin Tuna but they obviously didn’t like our lures.

It was a great day with very few people out on the water.

Let me be the 1st to congratulate you guys.

I knew you were out there, the closest I could get to a trip like this was a visit to your favourite tackle store.

Well done again Frank!

Nice stuff Frank. You always come up with the goods when you head out and you always provide a quality report that matches the quality of the trip. Great photos as usual.

You sure know where to find 'em Frank. Good stuff once again. Quick question.. How do you troll your Mack Baits? You seem to be doing really well on them especially lately. Thanks.

Always a good read backed with the photo evidence. You seem to always find them. Keep it up Frank.

Wide Caloundra had small pearlies and squire today and further in found plenty of undersize red throats. not much to take home for us.

Cheers Chris

Hi Pete,
Hopefully I have finally fixed his sounder or rather reterminated the transducer plug. Maybe now we will see Scotty's photos of the fish he has been missing out on.

Hi Darren,

I hope to receive my tinny soon so I can take you Whiting fishing instead. Excited??

Hi Damo,

My rig is nothing special mate. As you see from the photos, I use a single starnd wire for any Wahoo or Mackerel and connect that to a four meter wind-on leader. I normally troll at 12Kms and drop the lures back about 30 -40 metres. The Tuna seem to love the Blue colour but the Mackerel prefer the Pink.

Hope that answers your question.

Hi Justin,

Almost all my rods are Egrell. Even my short Stroker Trolling rods but I do prefer the action of the Shimano T Curve Jig Spinning sticK 400. I normally use the Saltiga 6500 with 80 lbs line but I am having that serviced for a trip to 1770 next month. I used a Stradic 6000 for this trip but Tom broke the handle under the strain of the fight.

You really do need to use a bigger reel for that type of work because that is about the fourth Stardic that I have broken, Split or burnt out..

Thanks for the information Andrew..

A top post and superb pics as usual Frank. I would give the stradics the flick....they dont perform well when asked to punch above the recommended lines classes. IMHO no graphite composite bodied reel with soft main gears, will handle those situations without eventually failing.....though im sure others will dispute this.

Once again thanks for a great post.

Cheers

Hi Sean,

I have only got one more Stradic 8000 to blow up and then I can buy a new Saltiga.

You must be keen putting up your post at 01:20am

frank, good to meet you and scotty back at the ramp and sorry scotty to hear you were stuck on the land listening to us fishing , we had a great time with five tuna and two unstoppables all on 6kg line, ryan spent one hour on one to have his line cut off by another fish, the tuna are fun on 6kg for the young fella most tuna weighed in at 5-6kg, i'll try to attach photo's of the last two trips, cheers jim

Good stuff Franko.

I am still struggling to get out. Can't believe the variability in the weather.

And stop throwing money into the ocean ... go and get yourself a Saltiga!
