Download a package called Google Earth (free), it has a ruler which you can use to plot a path. I've used it plenty of times and it's fairly accurate. Just keep in mind in some areas you'll have to go slower - speed limits around boat ramps etc.

i will def have a look at that but would also like some local knowledge as well to try and get an idea as to how much fuel i would need etc

ballpark allow at least 1 hour. Probably more if you are not familiar with the area as it is not always easy to stay in the channels and it gets very shallow.

Hi maverik, how big is your tinnie? Just something to keep in mind if you have say 20 knots plus of breeze in the passage with the tidal run against the breeze some sections of the passage are not fun in small boats.

In that rig you will do it easy in under 90 minutes. Can get shallow on low tide. Just follow the beacons and you will be right. Its a very easy trip.

It took me roughly 45min from donnybrook to Caloundra.

I did know a fare bit of it. So i would say for a newby it would take at least 90min give or take.

A 13 footer will do it easy but as WM said it can get hairy in spot with the right tide and wind.

I would do it on a fairly high tide as north of lime pocket can get shallow even for a 13 footer

and isn't there a go slow zone (off the plane) in place right across the passage just past lime pocket up to coochin?

By the map the go slow is only short.

I could be wrong but I think that "go slow zone" around 1/3 of the way up the passage only applies to the banks on both sides of the channel and doesn't apply in the main channel.

Make sure you carry spare fuel on the trip, 90mins should be about right
Cheers TT

m62 correct, the main channel isn't go slow.
takes me about 40 mins doing 25+ knots from spinnaker
dodging crab pots does slow ya down
the run along the 112's always a bit bumpy.
good fun, family trip. i did it years ago in my 12fter with 15hp
had 25 litre tank, ran out of fuel roughly outside sattlers pub on the way back!
lucky i had a few mates to tow me in.

I think lippa is on the money with his break down as close as possiable you would get.

Maverik, 13 footer is fine, it was a 27 liter trip for me in my old 12 foot 25hp 2stroke rig, take extra fuel just in case, plenty of creeks and drains to explore if the tide is right, take the mozzie spray if you plan to go ashore they will be very friendly after all the rain.

Just watch out cause as you head throughout the middle section of the passage some of the beacons are on the sandbanks as the sand has moved, one green beacon is in about 20cm of water in the middle of the tide. It shouldnt effect you though if you are travelling on a high tide, just somethingto be mindful of.
