Going camping at tallebudgera labour weekend, and wondering about taking the boat. Is the creek going to be crowded for towing the kids around, and whats the bar like ( never crossed one ). It looks more sand than water in most of the creek.

Hi, crossing Tally bar wouldn't be the first place to try if you've never crossed a bar before, it can be a very tricky and wild ride ! it still gets my heart pumping every time I pull up to it, but it mostly depends on swell,

but if the surf is small and you want to go out have a look at it at low tide to see the channel from up on either side of the rocks and watch other boats and the way they head out, you'll need the tide to be at least a 1/3 incomming and that will give you round 3-4 hours out at palmy reef maybee 10 mins out, or the gravel patch which is just over the 2 nautical miles out,

you'll be able to get the tube out for the kidds, but might have to wait sometimes to do your laps if it looks like to many boats n that, at low tide there is alot of places to run aground and can only get to the first island but you can get yabbies there, when it fills up you can go a far way back, stop and turn around as soon as you see the sign that says "Shoals" Have a great time , it is a good place to visit, cheers

Definately take the boat...the bar is barely ok.. suggest that currumbin is a better bar option but needs care also (top of the tide easiest)

As far as towin the kids.. that would be on a day by day bassis with the crowds.
