Yeah as far as i know thats still the rules, but remember no rego your not really meant to launch from a public boat ramp as the rego pays for maintenance of the ramps.

G'day

How about thew poor kayakers and small sail craft and paddle boards and everything else?

I've never seen a "can't launch here with unregistered craft" sign up......

Here ya go guys,
Straight from Qld maritime safety website....

http://www.msq.qld.gov.au/Home/Licensing/Recreational/ (http://www.msq.qld.gov.au/Home/Licensing/Recreational/)

Recreational marine driver licence
In Queensland, a marine licence is required to operate a recreational boat which is powered by a motor greater than 4.5 kW (over 6 HP) and you must have a personal watercraft (PWC) licence (http://www.msq.qld.gov.au/Home/Licensing/Personal_watercraft) to operate a personal watercraft.

Recreational ship registration
In Queensland, all recreational ships with an engine of more than 4hp are required to be registered when on the water.

I would hope that you are not referring to a canoe as a Personal Water Craft and for that you need a licence. I am confident that a PWC licence is for Jet ski's

Too right there Chris, or at least I would expect so. ;)
There is only references made to jetskis and the like on the website from what I can see.
It would be totally ludicrous me thinks...but then again it is a government department????:P

Total crap, vessels that don't require registration (ie. 4hp or less in Qld ; 5 hp or less in NSW; and all unpowered craft such as canoes), can be launched anywhere.
I have heard this ridiculous rumour before, and can only imagine someone sprouted off in a pub one night and the story spread from there.

I saw the information in a boating mag and paid particular attention to it as we only had a 3metre tinny with a 3.3hp motor at the time. we still did launch at public ramps, and im not saying that you shouldnt or that it i against the law, just that we made sure we kept out of other ramp users way. now that we have a bigger boat and registered we still make our launch and retrieve as quickly as possible to keep everyone happy.
