Weathered Blank

G'day,

I've got a Butterworth FSU 4120 blank that was left out in the elements for at least a couple of years.It was lying down off the ground and is straight without any dings in it.It's a little bit faded but appears to be okay.Would it be alright to use??

I want to make an overhead surf rod to use an Abu 12 or 10000 and 20-30lb mono.I've got a large extension that was on a previous FSU 5120 that got broken and would like to salvage that to make a longish rod for using on the Ninety Mile beach here in Victoria.

i would give it a couple of hearty whips to see if you can hear any of the fibers cracking if it sounds okay it should be okay to rebuild.if tis got the guides and reel seat chuck on a reel and some lead and give it a couple of casts if it does fracture then you wont have wasted time money and effort on the rebuild cheers peter

It is the sunlight that causes the problems.
I would definitely test it before I spent any money on it.

Yeah it's just a bit greyish instead of the original black.I'll have to get some guides and put them on roughly (but strongly) and have a few casts and whips.A shame to waste a blank and I want another surf rod.
