My OH beach rod died so having looked at whats available readymade have decided to build one again. I built the last one but that was my one and only. The old man had made a few over the years. My question is which blank. I think the old rod was built on a 12 wrap butterworth. So i'm looking for something similar that is capable of casting a 3 ounce sinker with a pilchard as bait.

maybe a pacific or snyder MT8144 would do the job, they are a heavy rod and will cast 3 ounces no problems. they are 12 foot. If you want something shorter, an FT5120 would do the job.
I find that the mt7144 is plenty heavy enough for big tailor, but saying that i use an alvey on it, which can cast an unweighted pilly a mile. dont know what it would be like fully loaded with a 3 ounce lead and pilchard, and tehn giving it a really solid cast.
hope this helps

Be quick on the Snyder. They're closing up.
End of an era I'm afraid.

Extended FSU 5120
Sorry for not getting back before but been busy getting ready for the Borumba bash.
???? what brand would that be, Snyder?
Is there a system for identifing blanks or is it every manufacturer making his own numbering system up.?
