A mate has just rebuilt an old 89 Modeal Yammy Saltwater Series and is unsure if he can run unleaded through the engine??

Has anyone had any experience with this?

Cheers

Would be unleaded. Havent seen a 2-stroke pre-mix yet that specifies leaded fuel only? My 86 15hp Yammy made Mariner uses unleaded.

Would recommend premium unleaded and presuming it's a 2 stroke add a tad extra oil to the fuel mixture. It should be fine.

even if it stated Leaded, where is he going to get it? not much alternative now, unleaded it is, NO E10! premium is not realy necessary, but I guess it wont hurt, just cost more.

Yes, but if it stated leaded, he could use the lead alternative, additive. Its really an upper cylinder lube in any case.
No need for it in a 2 stroke.

Ordinary unleaded is the go - Yamaha advises that you don't use premuim - it goes off far quicker than normal unleaded and is a waste of money - no more performance out of it at all.

The saltwater series were oil injected were they not? That being the case, see no resaon to add extra oil to the fuel beyond the normal run-in period following a full rebuild. The Yammy oil injection systems were and are by far the best of the 3 stroke systems from those days.

If in doubt, contact Yamaha's tech people rather than rely on opinions here - they are quite helpful and are the real experts on all this stuff.

If in Brisbane 2 of the best dealers are Yatala Yamaha amd Stones Cnr Marine - give them a call.
