Headed to Mooloolaba Friday afternoon, arriving late there were a few storms hanging around. We headed out of the river only to be met by sloppy conditions, giving Spiro a call to see what conditions were like out at the banks he reported lots of run and plenty of slop so we fished in close for a couple of hours to see what would happen, picking up a few juvenile reds and keeper grassy. With conditions not improving and my mates young fella feeling a bit second hand we decided to have a good sleep in the river and then head out at 3.30am.
Pleasantly surprised to find the slop had died down considerably we made good time out to the banks and started fishing just on first light. Landing a good size tusky about 3-4kg things were looking good then the under size red throats hit and couldn't get a bait past them. We fished till about 12.30 and managed to put a bag together of tuskys, coronation, red throat and hussar. By this stage the wind had picked up to about 15knts so we pulled the pin and headed for home.
Not quiet the trip we had hoped for with the weather not quite playing the game but good to see the banks are a healthy breeding ground with a lot of undersize fish caught including coral trout, red emperor, cod and of course plenty of red throat. Now if we could only find where they go when they grow up.::)
