Hey guys,

Looking at getting a merc 60hp tiller to be put on a 4.5 poly. I've never driven a tiller over 30hp and was wondering if it would be too much of a hand full driving this size motor as a tiller?

Hey Ben - Think you'll find the 4.5(Drifter) Open Poly's are only rated to 50HP(unless you have had the hull re-rated?)....the CC etc are rated to 60HP.

Yeah mate, Darran (polycraft) has told me he can re-rate the hull for me.

Open fly...that's funny :)

Anyways, you should not have any troubles if she's set up right :)

Mate should be no problems, I had a yammie 50 4stk tiller it was great.

A guy down the road has a 70 suzuki 4 banger on a tiller, and I've seen pics of a 140 zuke tiller as well.

Mate i have a 60hp 4strk tiller on a 4.5 and it's no problems........i have used a 115hp 4stk tillersteer yammie on a 5.5mtr boat without a drama and have seen a 215hp merc jet outboard set up and spoke to the guy who said it wasn't an issue.......If you set it up properly it will be light as a feather........no different than the 30hp you have used.
