lemon juice then left out in the sun. It should fade your jackets at all unlike bleach based products.

Breamboss,

Try vinegar then warm water with a scrubbing brush or toothbrush (just don't try to brush your teeth with it after that)

1:10 white king in water...aka sodium hypochlorite...aka pool chlorine. Will kill the mould without bleaching the PFDs...rinse after in fresh water

dip em in salt water every time you go out. Mould doesn't like salt. If the chlorine fades the PFD it may get outed in a safety inspection and the webbing on a lot of em doen't like bleaches or alkaline substances and it degrades and falls apart if it isn't rinsed out with fresh and detergent.

Generally only cotton fabrics are very susceptible to bleach damage like that, but whatever ...dont do the bleach thing ( has lots of caustic soda with it) and also an acid thing (vinegar or lemon juice) as chlorine gas can be produced...just give them a scrub..?

got this info from Moreton bay Boat Trimmers, I imagine it would be similar for PFDs

Just another cleaning tip,it doesn't matter which state you live in.at some time or another you will get mould growing on the inside of your canopy. Most people will head straight for the exitmould or nappysan, thats a no no(you'll be getting me to resew it soon after) http://###########.biz/yabbfiles/Templates/Forum/default/help.gif.

The safest way is to simply mix 1 to 2 capfulls of Softly fabric softner to 1 litre of water in a spray bottle and spray it on,some application may need a lite scrub with a soft nail brush then just wash off with clean water.

This will help keep the mould away for a good 12 months,as you have just resanitised your canopy.

Throw em in the pool for a coupla days. We do this to get the mould off the banana lounges.

Salt and Chlorine, all you need to kill mould.

the mold is not on the surface of the material it is sort of in amongst the weaving of the material it appears as a cross shapes.

Diluted "oil of cloves" (About 1 tbl per litre of water is all that is needed) available from larger chemists...kills it and prevents it coming back
