I am changing my Anchor warp, currently have Polyamide (nylon) 14 mm. Way to heavy for my tub and it's pretty old as well.
So what does everyone use.

12 mm silver, easy on the hands and good on the retriver ring when used as well.

I use 8mm nylon on my 17' Haines. It was rated stronger than 12mm silver and I can fit more rope on board. Handles really well too.

Cheers,
Dave.

Nylon is the superior of the 2 and I use it, but its a fair bit dearer. I changed to it because its better with the gypsy.

I dont have a gypsy, wife wont let me have other females!
And I like the soft feel of the silver 12 mm on the hands esp after they get wet and less resistant to hard rope.

I have a Bro in law that was a rigger, and he showed my some Nylon/Poly/who knows rope that is very stretchy, so I use that as it takes some of the jerk away from the Anchor (I also use a shock ring) used to use normal old slippery poly rope, lasts forever, but is very slippery to grip.

I find the 8mm pretty good on my hands, but I don't ever have to pull any weight in with it. I use a bouy to raise the anchor.

Cheers,
Dave.

I forget doesn't Nylon float? I can remember using it years ago and have the memory of it floating and being stretchy, floating can mean more chance of hooking a part of the boat without noticing like while asleep during a wind or tide direction change and stretchy is dangerous when pulling a problem anchor with the boat.

Silver rope is a good allrounder IMO

If you use Nylon when anchoring at Tipplers on South Straddy, it's be cut off by boats going by - using rope that floats is bad news - there you need a long line out to hold in the mud, which increases the chance of a boat hitting the line unless it's sunk. Oscar.
