Rough as guts out there all weekend. Seas assured that I, for one, left a beautiful berley trail on a few occasions.

Not much caught by anybody, but good to be out there anyway!!!!

After much indecision we decided to run the tournament even with the 15-25 knots forecast (now looking at the weather forecast for this weekend-our alternate dates- im glad we did).

Unfortunately we had a few small boats pull out due to the weather but we still ended up with 22 boats fishing ranging in size from 5.5m up to 55 foot.

Friday morning (day 1) the wind was only about 15 knots til lunch time and every one got out fishing.

The day's fishing was very slow and although there was a stack of bait all over the place the fish didnt want to play ball.

Results for day one were one Blue Marlin, a 23kg barracuda, a 14kg wahoo, a 10.5kg mahi mahi and a bunch of fish that didnt weigh.

Day 2 we had around 20-25 knots for the day but the ocean was surprisingly organised and it wasnt super rough.

All boats got out fishing once again but a few returned to port early.

Day 2 saw 2 black marlin tagged and a few fish weighed.

Over the weekend there was a hand full of blues and blacks lost as well.

We (crew on the 36 blackwatch- Watch Ya Problem) had a shocker and out of a 5 confirmed billfish seen, we only hooked one and lost that boat side.

Champion boat over 6.5m for the weekend was "Pacemaker" owned and skippered by George from Reelax tagging a blue marlin on day one.

Champ Boat under 6.5m was "Mally" (GCGFC Pres) and the crew on "wet Dream"
weighing a 10.5 and 14.5kg mahi mahi.

Champ Angler was Dave fishing on Pacemaker.

There was plenty of bait in all the usual spots its just a shame the fish didnt play ball.

The Sunshine Coast Game Fishing Classic lived up to its reputation as a really enjoyable casual get together and this was evident by a whole heap of sore heads sitting at the presentation breakfast yesterday morning.

Id like to thank all boats and anglers who put up with the weather and fished the tournament and would really like to thank our great sponsors. As every one who is involved with some sort of club will know....with out sponsors we just dont get to have great events such as this.

Congratulations on a successful tournament Jeff. And well done to the boats that toughed it out in less than favourable conditions....especially the under 6.5's.

It also answers a lot of questions asked on here of late about Gamefishing.....you dont have to have a big boat, nor catch a billfish, to win one.

Cheers and Thanks
