You don't normally see me posting reports in the offshore section but i do from time to time hit the blue water just for something different. Anyway we decided to bounce some plastics in some shallow grounds yesterday and Matty came up trumps with an 80cm spangled emporer on 8lb spin gear. We also got bricked by 3 more of the same size and put 2 more just legals in the esky.

thats a great spangly, where bouts did you fish, we struggle some times on 30lb gear to keep em out of the reef or kelp. they hit pretty hard. how much fun did you have filleting the big one, i find em pains as the back vertebrae are like marbles, take the edge off the knife pretty quick. well done cheers lethal

Hi Jeremy,

That is a great effort on light gear, in fact on any gear.

I know how hard they pull in deep water let alone the shallow stuff.

The fish were targeted in the wash zones off the south passage bar in 15-40ft of water. We pretty much needed a machette to hack the fillets off. Your all too right about them pulling hard. I think the only reason Matt landed that one is because it took the plastic mid water well away from the bommie. I was fishing 20lb on a 4000 stella and had one strip line like a tuna but heading back to the reef, thought i had him but turned out he was just toying with cutting me off about 5 metres up into the braid. I tried to spool grab but learnt the hard way the drilled styling on the spool makes it like grabbing a sanding disk when its spinning at 6000rpm.

Nice work there jeremy. As has already been said the sweetys pull seriously hard and on 8lb:o whoa. Been smoked by them on a lot heavier gear myself. Top effort and a tasty feed. Ben

Thats a sensational effort on 8lb gear...:o....me, well I'd prefer to use 80lb and know that he was going to end up in the esky...I already lose too much tackle...but I do have a certain admiration for such ballsy fishing...

Hope you decide to tackle a bit more outside fishing and can show us what can be done..great stuff indeed..

Mate thats a good Lipper.

We ve had nights were 60lb Mono doesnt slow them up From Running into the kelp, Just wait til they start running back at you and Run back under the boat to another cave
So 8lb is quite a top effort

Well done

Well done Jeramy

What do you mean by "the wash zones off SP" Is this over near the rocks and reefs etc

How did he come out on the plate. They can be tough at times

Yeh mate around rocks. The flesh was firm but not tough.
