Hi Guys and Girls

As with any type of boat there is pro's and con's to the construction material, angles etc. What are some of the general pro's and cons of a plate aluminium boat as compared to a pressed (??I think) aluminium boat. Manily looking at bay fishing in waters up to 30m deep.

Cheers
Scott

weight is a key factor of performance

strength is the biggest difference between plate and pressed. pressed boats user a much lower tensile alloy so they can press it into their jigs, try doing that with good plate and it will break. Each panel is cut to suit in plate boats and good manufacturers will fully weld the whole thing, pressed boat will often just be seam welded and will be more likely to split hulls due to the fact that they have flex which put and awful lot of pressure on the welds.

Plate boats are also heavier, which will assist in ride quality, but comes with a higher price to power them.

Overall, plate boats are a helluva lot more strucurally sound than pressed.

If you're serious about finding out for yourself, do a water test in a pressed tinny and a plate boat of around the same size, no matter what pressed boat you go in, any platey will shit all over it.

another difference is that plate boats, having fully welded hulls, are designed to be rigid, whilst pressed boats are designed to have a certain amount of flex. This latter feature can have an adverse effect on welds.

they make plate boats over 30 m deep so i would say there on track pressed boats rely on flex to comfort and ease through water trouble is if you flex enough in time they crack. in tidal and lake waters as well as soft offshore conditions there ok . main advantage they require less horsepower to push .as well as $$$$$$$$$$$$$$

disavantage i doubt you would have to many mates 50 k out.

difference in ride, performance, strength, noise, comfort, weight, price, functionality...that just about sums it up.....

then there the differences in the brands of plate boats, well thats a 10 year debate

good luck - cheers - Craig
