Has anyone changed over to the new led type lights? I am looking at fitting a led anchor light and maybe nav lights too, blew one at sea the other night.
so
Are they brighter than normal
How much
Long lasting
Do you consider them good value
I want to get as brighter light at anchor as I can (for obvious reasons), but have as low a draw rate as possible.
Info and websites appreciated....
Garry,
I have the Perko one.Its removable.Small circular lenz, so it doesn't give you vision problems, has all the ratings required.Shielded underneath.
I will see if I can get a pic for you

Using LED anchor and Nav lights... Nav lights are indeed much brighter and clearer. Well worth getting. Use a lot less battery power too :)

I have a white pole one for the all around white. I have some german, very bright, poly lens bulb ones for the side running lights...I really like them and I havent blown a bulb in them for 5 years!. The LED white is great, but I made the mistake of leaving it upside down (its on a swivel bracket and is meant to be swung down and out of the way (mounts on my centre windscreen frame) and it filled the LED with water. I put it right side up and drained it and it works fine again...I dont think its wrecked and seems just as bright - got that one from Whit..orths on sale - very bright!

A lot of LED do not comply with angles and brightness for Nav lights so have a close look at them when you buy and if they don't have tinned wire they won't last long with salt water. As LED are directional be careful if putting cheap LED bulbe in existing ones as they can be very hard to see. I'll stick with the old fittings and good led bulbs and have kept the old bulbs for easy on water replacement if I notice a problem. If one LED out of a whole light is not working a person in authority with a stick up theit bum could say it doesn't comply and send you to the ramp. Some LED are very ho and melt fittings Quality ones are great but no cheap.
We have a led bulb in our anchor light and big batteries so don't really notice teh differenc.
