I have a 10ft stessl edge tracker and 8hp honda. Both mid 90s models. I can't get the boat to plane and have tried hydrofoils which seem to help a bit. The front rides up so I don't want to trim it out too much. Would a new prop help? Any bigger motor exceeds transom weight limit. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

the boat should fly.
Have you shifted some weight up the front?

You need to sit further forward and use an extension tiller.

I can get a 12 ft tinny to plane with a 2.3 HP with the motor lifted and an extension tiller. Also I get a 10ft tinny to fly with a 9.9HP but in this case fitted with a foil on the cav plate. Mind you if I move my 100kg forward a bit it flies faster and better too.

Have you tried a foil? Have a feeling it might help too.

Prop might be too low, got a photo of it in the fully lowered position?

Wack a piece of polly pipe over the tiller handle and sit on the middle seat

maybe set the trim in more. did it used to plane? if so check that the prop is not spinning on the hub. other than that maybe o down a prop size or two

Thanks everyone. All good advice. I've tried foils to limited benefit. I've attached photos which may make a problem obvious. Thanks again.

Bring the motor up at least 1 1/2 inches it's to low at the moment creating way to much drag , then try it!!

Hi Whippy

IMHO I'd move the tilt pin to the middle position and also lift the motor as high as you can ie just so that the tightening pads inside the transom are just under the transom lip.

Find yourself some 1/2 inch thick spacers to sit the motor on and if the motor cavitates when you try it fully up pull one out at a time ie lower the motor a 1/2 inch at a time till its better. Ian (FT ) may be right about the 1.5"" lift but I think you could go higher and get benefits. Try it and if you drop a spacer at a time while your on the water you will quickly find out.

I think you will find the foil will assist you to get up on the plane quickly and also turn with the boat sitting flatter but its not worth putting on til you get the motor up.

:D Thanks everyone for your advice. It is greatly appreciatedI've raised the motor, put trim out and added a foil. I haven't added extension tiller yet. I got it on the plane and then it started porpoising. What have I done wrong. The prop is a 9 1/2 by 8 5/8. Could this be an issue? Once again any advice greatly appreciated.

Maybe try it without the foil? Best to get it working well without resorting to a foil, in my opinion.

Yeah im with blackened on this one, if your boat is porposing you need to trim in a bit till it stops.

Also im with foxy in regards to the foil, they are really only to have a boat plane slower than normal, to lift the boat out at a lower speed, get on the plane faster that is.
try to set up the boat without the use of the foil.

Do what griz said in post 5 before anything else major is changed just to see what a change of weight distribution does.

If you got it porposing you have made a big differnce so far IMHO
