G'day,

Was wondering what type of batteries people are using to power their electric motors? The batteries for my 65lb Minn Kota (24V) are on the way out and I am wondering if the extra expense for batteries such as Optima etc is worth it? What sort of life are people getting out of them?

I was also thinking of buying a decent battery charger as well. Has anyone got one of the Minn Kota 10 AMP 3 Stage Chargers? Good/Bad? Any better options/recommendations?

Cheers,
Roo.

G'day

All I can suggest is having a chat with your local battery world store.

I have a 130a/h US Battery deep cycle and meets all my needs with running the gps, sounder, 54lb 12V watersnake and 2x 100W spotlights with reserve for 5+ hours at a time

I have a pair of 130ah Trojans running my 24v Motorguide, they work really well. As for the charger, go for a 3 stage Xantrex smart charger. I have one and it is the goods.

The Minn Kota 10amp Charger is excellent. I have had one for about 3 years now and it has been great.
