any chance of some pics Jeremy whats the mesh size and is there a codend?
If the mesh is between 30-36 mm and it has a codend and is under 6 m long I could be interested

got it out and had a good look at it. It is 14.5m long (50') and 2.1m deep (7'). Mesh size seems to be about 10mm x 10mm and it is monofilament. There are 20 floats and plenty of leads. Double string lines top and bottom.

Pic is attached.

I used to use these things a fair bit when I was younger. Never knew one which had a bottom pocket or codend. You just alter the tension between the top and bottom lines and between the two people working the net to get the desired effect of forming a pocket where you want it or eliminating the pocket if it is picking up too much weed.

So what is it worth? $100?

Thanks

in NSW you can register a net with 30-36 mm mesh and less then 6 m long and use it to drag for prawns. I rang fisheries and asked about codends they said they where fine as long as mesh size and head rope length where ok. codends make the meshes pull flat much better for prawning.

I bought one from bcf last weekend for $85

No idea if it has a codend thing... It's still in its packet

I dont think rules are the same up here. Cod ends used to be illegal anyway. If I ring fisheries in NSW will they tell me I can keep female crabs?

I had one, but working in a hospital I seen too many people having come in after treading on stone fish and sting rays, and one young adolescent badly stung all over his torso by a swam of jelly fish. I packed mine up and stick to cast netting now :-)

LOL @ Ratking! I am with ya mate. Stick to cast netting. Drier, safer, and by the time it takes to do a sweep you could probably cover similar ground. There is something fun about bait gathering with a bait net or cast net... or maybe its just me - I am so crap at fishing, I get a thrill out of catching bait fish or 6 prawns in a cast net lol.
