View Full Version : Gullwing Hydrofoil & Hydrofoils

Quick question guys

i fitted a set of gullwing hydrofoils to my merc 30hp on a stacer 429 nomad elite tiller steer and damn it is suicide in a chop of 2 to 3 foot we were just about thrown out of the boat numerios times my question is do all hydrofoils do this or can you reccomend a set of hydrofoils that are less likely to all of a sudded pitch you into the drink any info would be great

Foils can have positive and negative effects and this tends to be as individual as your setup.
I have heard good things about SE sports and Permatrim
But be careful when first trialing the new addition.
Probably the first question is why you feel you need a foil? What is it you think you need to gain??

Wiz i installed the gullwings only for the fact to try and get up on the plane faster and for a fliitle more stability at rest.

Also check your engine height. Foils can work well, but having them on an engine set too low can make this virtually useless and dangerous.

As Bt said make sure your engine height is correct, if this is so then as stated above a SE sports or permatrim are both good foils. I put a SE200 which is the SE300 little brother on a Yam 40 on a seajay 4.15 and it worked well
