Problem with Windlass 600

Does anyone have, or have a link to a operating manual for a vertical Simpson Lawrance Windlass 600?
The boat has been idle for a while and I went to check it today and no go. Power is coming out of the CB and switch no problems, but the winch remains lifeless. Havent checked it at the winch yet as its a pain in the arse to get to.

I tried turning it with the supplied manual handle and it didnt budge, but I suspect I may have to disengage the gearbox for manual winding? Couldnt figure out how to do this. If I turned the manual handle anti clockwise the top 'nut' section comes undone.

If this happened on the water I'd be up shit creek without a paddle, so if someone could tell me how to operate this winch manually it would be much appreciated :)

One question..
I got it all apart
The wheel that grabs the chaiin (Gypsy?) isnt keyed or pinned to the sharft.

Drive appears to only via friction when the cap nut is done up, does this sound right?

Yes,, that is correct....

Be sure you don't over tighten the winch top....
