The weekend of the 10th January I will be 50 and have the chance to get away for a long weekend and do some fishing - but where to go?

I live at Toronto, Lake Macqaurie, NSW and don't want to have to drive forever.

1. I like staying in a pub.
B. I don't mind peace and quiet in the day but a good happnin' pub at night.
3. I don't mind camping as long as there aren't loads of kids.
4. I don't mind if it's salt or fresh, rivers or lakes, bays or rocks or on even taking in an offshore charter for a day - you get the picture.

So, what ideas do you have to make my 50th memorable - fish and fun

50? 50? too old mate to do any of those things..once you hit 50 it is time to just stay home and do nothing. Life begins at 40...all over at 50.

I had the same idea. Most prominant birthday parties, like weddings, seem to be enjoyed by everyone but the host. So I made a deal with my wife, my 50th is something I want to do ... fish.
So far the best I've come up with is a trip for a weeks fishing and crabbing Shaolhaven Bay with some mates.
Maybe find a good guided fishing trip or hope someone in your area can come up with a good area.
Good Luck and Happy Birthday Pomjon1.
Cheers 8-)

Mate if I were you I would take a few extra days, fly up to New Guinea and have a go at those New Guinea Bass, Mangrove Jacks on Steriods.

Now that would a 50th worth celebrating!!!!

Mate
Go to Rainbow Beach, get a cabin, fish all day then catch the curtesy bus from Rainbow Waters Holiday Park to the club(ring to book the bus) their pizza is to die for and have a belly of booze then catch the bus back to the cabin.

Hi Pomjon,

What about a houseboat on the Hawkesbury? It ticks all the boxes. You can have a quiet relaxed time if you want, you can moor at night and visit the pub if you want and most of all you can fish as much as you like. Then to top it off, to make your birthday more memorable, have a rod custom made for yourself with fancy bindings and something special written on it to commemorate your birthday. ;D;D;D;D;D

What ever you decide, have a great birthday.

Cheers, Greg, 51

The night life can be whatever you want mate :) but a few of my mates have spent a coupla nights over the years camping on Broughton Island off Port Stephens.
Take a few mates, prawns, oysters, eskys and a tent. They had a massive time.
Great place, and the fishin this time of year is awesome. Takes 1hr to get to the bay and 1 hr to get out there on a good day. Give it some thought !!;)

whatever you do - do it large! you only get one 50th, for that matter, you only get one life.

we farewelled a family friend yesterday, who died suddenly at 58. he had a great life, but it ended too quickly. live it up mate...
