Hi all,
I need an overhead reel to match my 5'6" 10kg ugly stik. I'd like a Shimano charter special, TLD15 or TLD20.
Cheers,
Matt.

I've got a brand new Abu Garcia 6500C3 sitting in my garage. You can have it for $100. RRP is normally about $150.

Hi all,
I need an overhead reel to match my 5'6" 10kg ugly stik. I'm not wanting to spend more than $100, so I guess I'm looking for something like a PENN 330GTI.
I'm not brand loyal, so any decent brand will do... I just need something that is overhead newbie friendly. I've got plenty of experience with alveys and eggbeaters, but not overheads as yet!
Cheers,
Matt.
Ugly stiks and penn reels. Great combination!
Matt, I have sent you a PM

Thanks anyway mate, have decided to go Shimano...
So I'm after a charter special, TLD15 or TLD20. I can go above $100 for the right reel :)

BCF currently have a special on the Shimano Charter special and possibly the TLD. I have the charter special and it's a great reel. Fish & Tackle world have a special currently on the TLD combos.
Tight lines!

Yeah, BCF have them for $139, but doesn't end until the 28th. So if I can't find one cheaper second hand or a TLD (may even splurge on a second hand tyrnos) before that finishes or the next time I go fishing close offshore then I'll snag the charter special new.
My only concern is line capacity.. I'm hoping to snag a spot on someones boat offshore at some point and the charter special won't take a whole lot of 30lb line.

It was alright.. tried just off Mooloolaba but it was a little rough for my mrs so after she landed a baby sweetlip we made for the sheltered bay. I picked up a estuary cod of 38cm. That was on my penn slammer/penn captiva combo, I didn't get a chance to catch anything on my ugly stik/charter special.
After that we just went for a cruise down the Mooloola river.
Sure is going to be interesting learning how to cast with the charter special... Even a short distance would be nice. I tried yesterday and ended up with a birds nest each time. :p

I used to cast a birds nest every time. I was determined to learn how to cast though because I am a decent fly caster and just wouldn't give up. I studied any literature I could find on it, then got a mate who is a real good caster to give me some tips. I still cast like sh!t. Birds nest every time.
Anyway, how is the Mrs enjoying the boat?
