G'day Ausfishers,

I have a Lowrance LCX-15 colour sounder/GPS and was looking to upgrade, however i currently have a thru-hull transducer and dont want to have to replace it (boat lives in the water at the moment).

I know that newer generation Lowrance units have different plug configurations so the transducer will not just "plug in".

Does anyone know if my current transducer would talk to new lowrance units or other brands if the appropriate plug was properly connected to the cable ?

Thanks,

David.

Hi David,

the transducers stay much the same for a number of years, but as you have noted they do change the connectors from time to time. I had a similar issue with an old 25X sounder with a thru hull transducer. The head unit went and I wanted to get a replacement. In the end I picked up a later model X65 head unit and was able to buy an adaptor cable from lowrance to suit. Be warned though, they also change the power cable connectors and you can't buy an adaptor for those, so a rewire (or at least partial to wire in the new connector) is necessary.

I can give you a link to the relevant page on the Lowrance site, that shows what models your transducer is compatible with. However, I need more info on your model and tranducer. Apparently there were a few different versions of the LCX-15!? Is it a CI or a MT?? And what is the model number for your Transducer if you know it?

Cheers

Dave

Hi Dave,

The sounder is the LCX-15 CI or CT cant recall, but it is the colour version so I dont think it would me the MT as i thought they were the momocrome version (could be wrong though). I do not have any details on the transducer.

Rewiring in the new power cable would not be an issue for me, its having to replace a thru-hull transducer that doesnt turn me on !!

Hope this helpsre the link.

regards,

David.

Hi David,

The link I can give you is to the FAQ page on the Lowrance website. Unfortunately the page expires quickly, so I can't give you the direct link, but if you go to the initial FAQ page;

http://www.lowrance.com/en/Support/Frequently-Asked-Questions/

and then type into the search box;

"Lowrance LCX 15 Transducer compatability"

That will get the links you need up. Have a look through the links to find your particular Transducer. The colour of the connectors is important in this ID. If your connectors are Grey, Lowrance say it will work with the current models, but the Temperature Sensor will not work .

Once you can identify you exact model and Transducer number then you can ring Lowrance Australia or go to a dealer and they should be able to confirm which models your transducer will work with and what adaptor cable you need.

Cheers

Dave

Thanks Dave, big help. I now have a printed list of compatible lowrance units.

Other Ausfishers .........would mind hearing from you if anyone knows if this transducer can be mated to other brands of sounder, eg Furuno.
