Team,

I need to installing another Throttle Lever Assy for my Johnson 1989 110HP.

What is the best way to go about this?

My existing one broke (from age) and I tried to put it back together with glue, etc.

Unfortuantely, it is just not the same in terms of operation, stickiness and non-responsivness.

It is very fiddly trying to connect the throttle cable inside this lever.

Attached is a breakdown of the lever assy from the BRP catalogue.

Do I need to buy a complete assy with a new cable already attached or is it possible to attach the exisiting cable afterwards and hope for the best?

Has anyone repalced their throttle lever and if so did you relace the whole lot (cable plus lever assy)?

No mate cable is a totally separate piece of equipment, needs to be fitted and adjusted inside the throttle ( I think there is adjustment that end it's been a while since I have done this job, I am not unhappy to say)as well as at the engine so all works in concert with the correct throw, if replacing like for like mark the adjustment on the cable somehow before undoing it inside the lever assembly, still you may need to fine tune.

cheers fnq

the parts will be readily available, they changed little for many years, nothing tricky to replace it, also it is a breeze to replace the cable, not too sure what sort of trouble you are experiencing, be a bit more specific and explain what you are having trouble with, it is a simple device really.

i found connecting the cable inside the throttle level assy painfully awkard and pissy.

Anyways, I have jsut ordered another throttle lever assy from Arizona.

THanks Noel

Whereabouts are you located Splash ?

There's Yatala Outboard Wreckers yard in the service rd
( at Yatala...funnily enough...) and he'll have a throttle assy no risk at all

Hey Splash/others, my cables are nearing the end of their life, apparently you can get new ends fitted by a cable specialist if you just want to shorten them a little, or so I've ben told.

Can any-one comment on whether new cables (mine are from an '83 motor) are more flexible, ie can have tighter arcs in them? For me that would mean I'd be able to hide mine out of the way, at the moment they are a pain in the.......

Cheers Ian

Hodad3230 -

I would replace them myself if I was you. A bit of pain to install upfront but much more value long term.
