Hi all,

Father in-law just bought a Bermuda Island Shore 490 Runabout with a 60 4Stroke Merc on the back, brand new. Took it for a spin on the river today and it went really well and he is really happy with it. We got a max speed of 23 to 25knots.

Was interested to hear what speed others get with their boats?

Regards,

Richo

I've got a Sunchaser 4.4m fibreglass runabout with a 50hp Yamaha two stroke (both 1995) and I get 53km/h flat stick on calm water... Out on the ocean hopping over swell rolling it with a little chop, two in the boat + gear she was doing 45km/h.

Pretty pleased all in all.

G'day Richo,

My father bought a Bermuda 490 Island Shore and 50hp 4 stroke Merc new back in 1999.

In reality, the 50hp 4 banger back in '99 was too heavy for the hull and used to take too long to get up onto the plane. Todays 4 strokes are much nicer and lighter!

Top speed from memory was about 27MPH.

Cheers
Brendan

My old Seafarer Vermont may not be the prettiest boat at the ramp, but the Merc 115 2st on the back can push her at 50 knts (80km) in the river.

Thanks everyone for your responses, sounds like the speed we are getting is pretty normal. Brendon, it is the same with the new merc on the back it does take abit to get her up on the plane might have to put a hydrofoil on the leg to give it a hand to get up quicker. Took it out today and it handled the 15knot chop pretty well, stuck mostly to the river and no luck on the fish. May have had a mild take from a threadie on the oil pipeline but just guessing.

Thanks all

I have a 3.6 (12 ft) glass runabout with a 2 st 40horse johnno, I couldnt be sure but top speed is anywhere between 50 - 60 kph @6300, She shoots outa the hole like a slingshot and then hits full speed pretty quick, im thinking in the direction of a prop change to be a bit less agressive outta the hole but more top end.
then again it is only used for fishing!!!

64km/hr in flatish water with two blokes and gear for my 4.6 dory and 04 60hp 2st.
And i have to tell ya it hits that speed real quick then the limiter cuts in.
Cant wait to chew the prop out to get a higher pitch one and then see what i can get out of her.
