Wanted 27meg marine radio. Mine just shat itself and it was an Axis unit only 15 months old.

Think about getting a VHF unit "noboat" - the coverage and audience is greater than the 27meg. Some regions are no longer taking 27meg calls. Over 85%of radio calls are from a VHF unit nowadays..

Yes but I only fish the top end of the Passage and the 27meg range is good in the area and Caloundra Coastguard will be monitering it for some time into the future. I will however get a Vhf in my next boat that will be used for offshore.
Yes you do make a valid point, but my circumstances are limited.

i got a brand new unit. fitted to my boat with ariel. it doesnt give me enough range. so im getting rid of it. getting a vhf,

also ariel comes with.
